Today at 1:57 pm the Millen Police Department received a call for a robbery at S&S Loan on Cotton Avenue. The employee states that a black male entered the store wearing a gray hooded sweater/jacket style top with a gray gaiter style mask. The offender was described as 5ft 8in tall, light skin, short dreadlock hairstyle and was wearing blue latex gloves (medical type). The offender forced the employee to open the register and fled with an unknown amount of money. The offender was last seen on foot heading west on Cotton Avenue. Detectives are processing the scene and collecting video surveillance from the area. If anyone has any information please contact the Millen Police Department at (478) 982-2750.

Exploitation of the Elderly Arrest (04-22-2021)

On Wednesday the Millen Police Department responded to 327 Virginia Avenue after receiving a suspicious activity report from a concerned citizen. Upon arrival the victim stated that a white man and woman came to her house and offered to trim a dogwood tree. The victim showed officers the tree and 7-8 small limbs that were in a pile near the street. The victim was confused about how much she paid them. The offenders charged the victim $625.00. Once the offenders attempted to cash the check they were identified through video surveillance. Warrants were secured for the offenders and they were picked up Thursday afternoon pulling into another residence for “trimming trees”. Please be aware of this kind of activity and encourage vulnerable family members to call the police department if they are unsure of someone’s intentions.

On Thursday January 14 2021 Officers with the Millen Police Department received a call in reference to a stolen iPhone. The phone was giving a signal from a hotel room at the Sunset Inn on Highway 25 North in Millen. Officers went to the Sunset Inn and were able to pinpoint the location of the phone to room 127. As officers knocked on the front door, occupants in the room threw a firearm out the back window. Detectives with the Millen Police Department secured a search warrant for the room and executed the warrant around 11:00pm. Inside the room officers located three fi****ms, narcotics, counterfeit money, drug paraphernalia and a wanted person. On Saturday November 28th the Millen Police Department took 45 year old Teddy Smith into custody. Smith was taken into custody in the parking lot of Neighbors in Millen after arranging to meet with a fourteen year old girl. The chat was being controlled by detectives with the Millen Police Department throughout the investigation. Smith is being charged with Sexual Exploitation of a Minor (Felony) and Criminal Attempt (Child Molestation) Felony. Smith is being held at the Jenkins County Sheriff Office without bond.

On Tuesday, November 24th, 24 y/o Jeffery Cequan Stephens of 248 Gay Street Millen was arrested. The Millen Police Department was alerted to a suspect going through a car on North Masonic Street around 7:45 pm on Tuesday. Responding officers were able to apprehend Stephens as he was fleeing the scene. During follow up interviews, search warrants and help from the public, the police department was able to connect Stephens to the recent string of car break-ins. Stephens is currently being held at the Jenkins County Sheriffs Office where he is charged with 10 counts of entering an automobile (Felony) and 3 counts of Possession of a firearm by a Convicted Felon (Felony).

This morning the Millen Police Department executed a traffic stop on Winthorpe Avenue for expired registration. After speaking with the driver the Jenkins County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit was called for assistance. Once on scene JCSO K-9 Dax executed an open air search around the vehicle. K-9 Dax alerted on the vehicle and a search of the vehicle was conducted. Inside the vehicle was a Springfield Armory 5.56 mm pistol, a Ta**us .45 ACP pistol, a pocket sized digital scale, seven tablets of Ecstasy (M**A), Ma*****na and cash. The driver identified as 25 y/o Christopher A. Anfield of Millen was arrested and taken to the Jenkins County Jail. Anfield is charged with Poss. Of Ma*****na with intent to distribute, Possession of Schedule I controlled substance and Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Anfield was out on bond from a similar arrest in April of this year where he was charged with criminal trespass, Possession of a firearm during a crime, Possession of schedule I controlled substance with intent to distribute and discharging a firearm on the property of another.

******UPDATE****** This morning Roger Allen Sturdivant was taken into custody in Screven County without incident. Sturdivant was transported to the Jenkins County Jail. Thanks to Screven County Sheriffs Department for the assistance. This is an ongoing investigation and other arrest will follow***************************

On Friday, September 25 Millen Police Department was dispatched to 870 Harvey Street for a theft. The victim stated that someone went into her house and stole some of her jewelry. A report was made and the case was turned over to investigations. On Monday, September 28th Detectives following up on leads found the jewelry in a pawn shop located in Bulloch County. The jewelry was retrieved from the pawn shop and returned to the owner. The person responsible for the burglary and pawning of the jewelry was Roger Allen Sturdivant 44 of Screven County. Sturdivant has not been seen since the burglary. Sturdivant has outstanding warrants in Bulloch and Jenkins County. On Sunday, September 27th Millen Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 25 North. Mohmed Adel Shaw, 21 of Tuscaloosa, Alabama was checked at 75 mph in a 45 mph zone. Consent search of the vehicle revealed narcotics and a large sum of cash. Shaw was arrested and transported to the Jenkins County Jail.

On Friday September 25th officers with the Millen Police Department were dispatched to Academy Avenue for EMS assistance. While en route to the call officers were flagged down by a motorist stating that the car ahead of him was involved in a hit and run accident on Highway 25 near the Huddle House. The offender turned off of Old Waynesboro Road and traveled across Highway 25 onto MLK Ave. The offender proceeded to the end of MLK and turned onto private property. The offender then took flight behind a garage located on the property. The offender was taken into custody and transported to the Jenkins County Jail.

The vehicle was involved in a hit and run Sunday morning around 4 am on Hwy 25 near Neighbors Express in Millen. Any information will remain anonymous.
