hazardous; and

WHEREAS: South Georgia is in exceptional drought conditions that continue to worsen; and

Good morning, Jenkins County. Due to the extremely dry conditions, there is a County-Wide ban on all outdoor burning until the drought conditions improve. Gusty winds can cause outdoor fires to get out of control in a hurry. Fire departments around the state have been stretched with all the fires that are popping up. Thank you and Be Safe.

04/08/2026

Good morning, Jenkins County. Looks like today is going to be another very dry day. Please refrain from all burning. With all the dry vegetation, even a small fire can get out of control in a hurry. Be safe.

04/07/2026

Good morning, Jenkins County. I have received the following from GEMA.

FIRE DANGER STATEMENT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 7 PM EDT THIS EVENING
Special Weather Statement issued April 7 at 7:18AM EDT by NWS Charleston SC
Northeast winds today will gust around 20 to 25 mph, with
relative humidity values dropping to 25 to 30% across locations
away from the immediate coastline. This combination along with extremely
dry fuels will result in an elevated risk for wildfires.
Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether
you can burn. If you do, you are advised to use extreme caution.

Good evening, Jenkins County. Not much has changed from yesterday’s forecast from the NWS except that our area is now included in the Winter Storm Warning. We are still expecting 1-3” of snow and very cold temperatures with highs near 30 and lows in the teens for the rest of the weekend. Wind chills are expected to be in the single digits. Please take these messages seriously. If you must go out, dress in layers and cover as much skin as possible. Frostbite and hypothermia could set in quickly if exposure is continuous for even 30 minutes. Please stay off the roads, as travel will become treacherous throughout Saturday and will likely continue through Sunday. Make sure you have enough food, water, and warm clothes/blankets for a couple days. Our emergency personnel will be on duty, but poor road conditions will significantly impact their ability to respond to emergencies. Please stay home, stay warm, and Be Safe!
