Last Friday, the Miller Place High School community came together to honor beloved former coach and Athletic Director Bill Brown by dedicating the basketball court in his name. His leadership, mentorship, and dedication to our student-athletes left a lasting impact on generations of Panthers, and his legacy will live on every time a player steps onto this court.

Congratulations to the Brown family, and thank you to everyone who helped make this special celebration possible!

Miller Place High School kicked off the first Driver Safety Night of the school year with nearly 100 seniors and their parents/guardians in attendance!

Presented by Miller Place community member Mr. Allen Ferrari, a former New York City police officer with extensive experience in driver safety, the program delivered an important, straightforward message about the real-world consequences of unsafe and distracted driving.

For our seniors, earning a license and the privilege of driving to school represents an exciting new level of independence, and with that independence comes responsibility. Students were reminded that decisions behind the wheel can have immediate and lasting consequences, from distracted or impaired driving to speeding, failing to wear a seat belt, or allowing passengers to become a distraction.

Driver Safety Night is not just a requirement for on-campus parking; it is an opportunity to help our students become safer, more responsible drivers and understand the responsibility that comes with sharing the road.

Thank you to Mr. Ferrari, our students, and all of the parents and guardians who participated in making the first session such a success! Here’s to a safe school year ahead.

As we wrap up our orientations and school walkthroughs ahead of the first day of school, our principals, teachers, administrators, and staff are putting the finishing touches in place and getting ready to welcome students back to our schools!

From new student orientations to familiarizing ourselves with classrooms, hallways and everything in between, there is a sense of excitement and anticipation throughout the Miller Place community. We’re looking forward to welcoming our students back and making the 2026–27 school year a successful and exciting one.

MILLER PLACE SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION HOLDS ANNUAL REORGANIZATION MEETING

The Miller Place School District is pleased to announce its 2026-2027 Board of Education trustees. Lisa Reitan and John Galligan were sworn in for their new term as a trustee. Lisa Reitan was elected as President and Andrea Spaniolas was elected as Vice President. The 2026-2027 Board of Education also includes trustees Bryan Makarius and Jennifer Keller. Mr. Seth Lipshie was also sworn in for his final time as Superintendent. The District welcomes the Board of Education and looks forward to the school year ahead.

MILLER PLACE HIGH SCHOOL CRIMINAL JUSTICE STUDENTS Y.E.S. TOUR

Criminal Justice students attended the Y.E.S. (Youth Enlightenment Seminar) Tour of the Yaphank Correctional Facility. Students observed powerful presentations from incarcerated individuals who shared firsthand perspectives on the realities and consequences of the justice system.

LOVE ON A LEASH JOINS PSYCHOLOGY STUDENTS AT MILLER PLACE HIGH SCHOOL

The Social Studies Department welcomed volunteers and certified therapy dogs from Love on a Leash for a special visit to Psychology classes. Through hands-on interaction with the therapy dogs, students explored the psychological benefits of animal-assisted support, including stress reduction, emotional well-being, and the importance of positive coping strategies. The experience provided a powerful connection between course content and real-world applications of mental health and wellness while creating a warm, engaging atmosphere for students.

MILLER PLACE HIGH SCHOOL BUSINESS STUDENTS COMPETE IN ANNUAL LONG ISLAND BUSINESS TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION CONTEST

Miller Place High School Business students competed with students from across Long Island in a variety of business events designed to showcase their skills. Miller Place High School students were celebrated at the Long Island Business Teachers’ Association (LIBTA) Awards Luncheon for their accomplishments. We are incredibly proud of all of our students for representing Miller Place with excellence.
