I just received this from Holmes County EMA:

According to the National Weather Service, Holmes County has the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms late tonight into early Thursday morning.

The highest threat period is from midnight until approximately 5:00–6:00 AM.

Primary hazards include:
Heavy rain
Flash flooding
Damaging winds
Large hail
A possible tornado

Overnight storms are often the most dangerous because many people are asleep and may not receive warnings.

Please have multiple ways to receive weather alerts:
Enable Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) on your cell phone.
Keep a NOAA Weather Radio nearby with fresh batteries.
Sign up for local emergency notification systems.
Monitor trusted local TV, radio (WKLM), and weather apps.
Turn up notification volumes before going to bed.

Thunderstorm Safety Tips
Move indoors immediately when thunder is heard.
Stay away from windows and exterior doors.
Avoid using corded electrical devices and plumbing during storms.
Secure outdoor furniture and loose objects.
Charge phones and electronic devices ahead of time.
Never drive through flooded roadways. Turn Around, Don't Drown®.

Tornado Safety Tips
Go to the lowest level of your home or building.
Move to an interior room away from windows (basement, bathroom, hallway, or closet).
Put as many walls between you and the outside as possible.
Wear sturdy shoes and protect your head with a helmet, pillow, blanket, or mattress.
If you live in a mobile home, identify a sturdier shelter location before storms arrive.
Do not wait until a warning is issued to decide where you will take shelter.

Remember: A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop. A Tornado Warning means a tornado is occurring or imminent—take shelter immediately.

Please remain weather aware throughout the night and early Thursday morning and be prepared to act quickly if warnings are issued.

Hello all,

The Holmes County Emergency Management Agency is encouraging all residents and visitors to take precautions as high temperatures and humidity are expected to impact our area. Prolonged exposure to heat can quickly lead to heat-related illnesses, especially among older adults, young children, individuals with medical conditions, outdoor workers, and those without air conditioning. Per the National Weather Service, we could experience higher than normal temperatures this week (especially on Wednesday).

Heat Safety Tips

Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
Avoid excessive caffeine, alcohol, and sugary drinks.
Do not wait until you feel thirsty to drink water.

Stay Cool
Spend time in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible.
Use fans to improve air circulation.
Take cool showers or baths to lower body temperature.

Limit Outdoor Activities
Schedule outdoor work and exercise during the early morning or evening hours.
Take frequent breaks in the shade or a cool location.
Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.

Check on Others
Monitor elderly family members, neighbors, and those living alone.
Ensure children and pets have access to shade and water.

Protect Children and Pets
Never leave children, pets, or vulnerable adults in a parked vehicle.
Vehicle temperatures can become deadly within minutes.

Recognize Heat-Related Illnesses

Heat Exhaustion
Heavy sweating
Weakness or fatigue
Dizziness
Headache
Nausea
Cool, clammy skin

Move to a cool area, drink water, and seek medical attention if symptoms worsen.

Heat Stroke – Medical Emergency
Body temperature above 103°F
Hot, red skin
Confusion or altered mental status
Loss of consciousness
Rapid pulse

Call 911 immediately. Heat stroke can be life-threatening.

Remember
✔ Drink water frequently
✔ Stay in air-conditioned areas when possible
✔ Wear light clothing
✔ Check on neighbors and loved ones
✔ Never leave children or pets in vehicles
