Our Harwood / Lothian Fire Station is directly next to Lothian Elementary School and two doors up from Southern Middle School. Our crews spent a few moments in the mornings this week waving and welcoming the students back to school. Over the past few years this has become a tradition at this fire station. We love the relationship we have built with the students and teachers at these schools. We look forward to presenting fire safety tips and other community outreach events during the upcoming school year. Welcome back and have a great year!

Last week our Recruit Class 66 completed their training at our Training Academy. They worked along side current crews and officers and responded to several final training scenarios. These scenarios were designed to put all of the different training classes together into one long day of "responding to calls" and working through different incidents. In the next few days they will report to fire stations and will respond to actual emergency calls. Their "on the job" training will continue for several months. We look forward to seeing them in our stations and in our communities.

Our Fire Marshals go through many hours of training and certifications. In addition to completing our Fire Training Academy and spending years at a fire station responding to fire and EMS calls, they then begin their training pathway towards becoming a Fire Marshal. This pathway starts with attending the Anne Arundel County Police Department Training Academy. Recently, Lieutenant Heale and Firefighter / Paramedic McGowan completed the several month long training program. They are now certified Maryland Law Enforcement Officers. Next they will begin their "on the job training" with fellow Fire Investigators. In the future they will continue to take classes on Arson Investigation and Response. Congratulations to Lt. Heale and FF/PM McGowan for completing the Police Academy Training.
