..EXTREME HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 112.

* WHERE...A portion of Middle Tennessee.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Today is one of those great days in our department where we received our turnout gear some which was purchased by a Grant from the state of Tennessee.

Over the next few days, I will be sharing the things we purchased with this $45,000 Grant starting with this turnout gear which is helping Millersville keeping all of our safety equipment up-to-date.

For those who don’t know each set of this gear from head to toe cost around $5000 and it’s only good to keep for 10 years even if it has never seen a fire it must be discarded from use for anybody who would go inside of a structure fire so we must keep up a yearly rotation to make sure all gear worn by our firefighters is up-to-date and ready to use.

Another hot day in Millersville only made hotter by the car fire today. Luckily no one was injured, the gas station was safe and our firefighters did a great job. Luckily we had a couple extra firefighters around the station today so we had a fast response with multiple apparatus. Who were wearing SCBAs. Pictured is the quick initial attack from Captain Mounts while the firefighters packed up and then swapped out.

We love supporting the community and cooling down the kids. One last water day this week for lifeway Christian academy. Hope the kids and teachers enjoyed it as much as we did!

I could have not wrote a better solute to Randy Mantooth. Without him and Kevin Tighe our medical services would be much different with the show Emergency! It actually is one of the biggest causes to have ambulances spread across the nation when it did. This show also inspired many people we know to become the great leaders in the fire and ems services. Thank you Randy for everything you did and that your legacy will continue to do.

Some television characters entertain us. A few change lives.

For countless EMS professionals, Randy Mantooth's portrayal of John Gage on Emergency! did exactly that. The show inspired untold numbers of people to pursue careers in emergency medical services at a time when modern EMS was still finding its footing.

But Randy Mantooth's impact did not end when the cameras stopped rolling. Throughout the rest of his life, he remained a tireless advocate for EMS, supporting the profession, celebrating EMS Clinicians, and helping elevate emergency medical services into the respected and honorable career it is today.

This week, we lost Randy Mantooth. But his legacy lives on in every ambulance that answers a call, every EMS Educator who trains the next generation, and every EMS Clinician who chose this profession because of a television show that showed the world what service, courage, and compassion look like.

Thank you, Randy. Your watch may be over, but your influence will continue for generations.
