It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Retired Engineman Steven P. “Steve” Ambrozewicz, Badge #533, a longtime member of the Anne Arundel County fire service family.

Steve began his fire service career in 1977 as a volunteer with the Riviera Beach Volunteer Fire Company. He joined the Anne Arundel County Fire Department as a career member on August 6, 1987, as part of Recruit Class 24.

Steve began his career at West Annapolis and later served at Lake Shore and Jacobsville before being assigned to the Orchard Beach Volunteer Fire Company, where he spent most of his career. He retired from the Department in October 2020 after more than 33 years of career service.

Retirement did not end Steve’s service to others. He remained an active retired member of IAFF Local 1563 and the Anne Arundel County Retired Firefighters Association. Steve served for more than 25 years as a Local 1563 shop steward, advocating for and supporting generations of members.

After retiring, Steve remained an active member at Orchard Beach. He remained a familiar and valued presence, helping maintain the career “kitty” and continuing to serve the community as a volunteer tanker driver.

For nearly five decades, Steve served the Anne Arundel County fire service. His commitment went far beyond his badge and retirement date; he kept showing up, stayed involved, and supported the people and organizations that meant so much to him.

We extend our deepest condolences to Steve’s family, friends, and the many members of our fire service family who knew and worked alongside him.

Years ago when 2 of my good friends (Rick Smith and Carl Titcomb) moved to Florida I started sending them updates on various retiree issues etc. When others heard about it, the news soon turned into a newsletter of retiree news. This was even prior to the formation of the Retirees Association. Soon news got out and I received many requests to be added to the list. It went from 2 recipients to over 700. Mostly our sister and brother retirees and some other retiree groups and longtime active duty sisters and brothers.

This morning after many years of writing our newsletter I passed the duty on to Department PIO Russ Davies. It been a pleasure in doing this even though it meant dragging my lap top on trips etc. .
I have totally enjoyed doing this for years. I did 2 tours as a roving Lieutenant, and this helped in personally meeting and getting to know many of our members. This was a benefit in performing my duties.

Needless to say I will miss it but all good things come to an end. I plan to continue to cross the Bay Bridge and attend our reunions etc. And if you find yourself in Ocean City, I am only 6 miles from there, living in Berlin. Love to show you “America’s Coolest Small Town” and I even can give you a tour of the town where Julie Roberts filmed “Run Away Bride”
Hope to see you at our fall luncheon.
