The City of Millington would like to extend a sincere thank you to Brian Deal and New Memphis for taking the time to meet with our summer interns and share information about the opportunities available through New Memphis programs and the Summer Experience networking series.

During his presentation, Brian encouraged our interns to take advantage of opportunities to connect, learn, and grow professionally throughout the region. One message that resonated with attendees was his reminder that "New Memphis is with you every step of the way" as individuals reach new career milestones. From college students and interns to emerging and established professionals, New Memphis provides leadership development, networking opportunities, and resources designed to help individuals succeed and make a positive impact in our community.

We are grateful for organizations like New Memphis that invest in developing future leaders and helping young professionals build the skills, relationships, and confidence needed for long-term success.

Thank you, Brian, for sharing your time, expertise, and encouragement with our interns. We look forward to seeing the impact these opportunities will have on the next generation of leaders in Millington and across the Mid-South.

🐾 MILLINGTON, THIS IS ONE CHANCE FOR US TO STEP UP. 🐾

You may remember this sweet pup from a recent post after she was safely picked up by our team in Millington. She’s now in the care of Memphis Animal Services and is available for adoption, fostering, or even a foster field trip.

In the short time she spent with us, she won over just about everyone she met. She’s sweet, loves people, appears to be crate trained, and we even heard reports that she gets along well with other dogs.

This is also a good opportunity to explain how this process works.

Through the efforts of City leadership, the Millington Tennessee Police Department, and our partners at the Shelby County Health Department and Memphis Animal Services, we now have a system in place to help stray dogs in Millington find safety and, hopefully, a forever home.

When a stray dog is picked up in Millington city limits, our officers and staff work to safely secure the animal and attempt to locate its owner. If an owner cannot be found, the animal is transferred through the Shelby County Health Department system to Memphis Animal Services, where it receives professional veterinary care, housing, behavioral support, foster placement opportunities, adoption services, and the attention of a dedicated team committed to animal welfare.

A few years ago, this option simply did not exist. Too often, stray animals were left to fend for themselves until a resident stepped in, if someone stepped in at all. The outcome was frequently uncertain and sometimes tragic.

Today, because of this partnership and the work of many people behind the scenes, dogs like this one have a real chance, not just to survive, but to find a loving home.

🚨 Back to how you can step up:

Adopt of course. Not ready to adopt? Consider a foster field trip. MAS allows community members to take a shelter dog out for a few hours, a day, or sometimes longer, giving them a break from the kennel while helping staff learn more about their personality. Foster opportunities can range from a single day to several weeks, and MAS provides medical care and support for foster animals.

🔗 in comments with all you need to know.

If you’ve ever thought about fostering, this is a great place to start. If you’ve been considering adding a dog to your family, this sweet girl would love to meet you.

Look, she’s a part of us now. Let’s show her what is all about. ❤️🐶

As Millington, TN City Manager, I hereby declare lumpia the official food of Millington.

Actually, I’m pretty sure I don’t have the authority to do that. I checked with Mayor Dagen, and his official response was:

“Kain na!”

Also, that we’d have to get Board approval…

But now that I’ve got your attention.

🐾 FOUND DOG 🐾

A Good Samaritan alerted city authorities about this young lady, and she is now safe in the care of our city kennels. Officer Keeton and Officer Calhoun are looking out for her now. So she’s in good hands.

If this is your dog, please contact the Millington Police Department at (901) 872-3333.

If an owner is not identified, she will be transferred within 24–48 hours to our partners at Memphis Animal Services for continued care and adoption placement.

Please help us get the word out by sharing this post.

Following the ribbon cutting, the library will kick off its 2026 Summer Reading Program with a special event where participants will help unearth the library's very own dinosaur!
