Constituted January 23, 1956 in the Army Reserve as the 340th Public Affairs Information Field Service Detachment; activated March 1, 1956 at Albany, New York. Reorganized and re-designated August 22, 1958 as the 340th Public Information Detachment. Inactivated September 1, 1959 at New York, New York. Activated February 1, 1972 at Fort

Totten, New York. Reorganized and re-designated September 30, 1977 as the 340th Public Affairs Detachment. Inactivated January 30, 1995 at Fort Totten, New York. Activated Spetember 16, 2008 at Providence, Rhode Island.
