MYTH: "I'm too old to be a foster parent."

BUSTED: The minimum age requirement in Michigan to become licensed is 18 years old, although it's often recommended that you're at least 21 years old. However, there is no maximum age in which you can be licensed for foster care.

MYTH: "Foster parents can't work full-time/at least one parent needs to stay-at-home."

BUSTED: The foster parents licensed in Michigan are represented throughout a variety of employment statuses. Some parents work full-time, others part-time, others not at all. The State of Michigan offers many resourcese for working foster parents who have children who require day care services. We also work with you to identify a reliable subsitute care provider in case of emergencies.
