🌧️ Checking in on our Millington business community

Yesterday’s storm brought some unexpected and incredibly strong winds, and we know many across our community are waking up this morning without power.

We just wanted to check in with our Chamber businesses, their employees, and our community. How are you doing this morning?

Are you open? Operating on a generator? Dealing with damage? Or simply trying to figure out the day without power?

Wednesday, our director Chris Thomas met with the leaders from the Suburban Chambers and Cory from Younger Associates at the EDGE Meeting where they made their presentation for the EDGE grant. The Shelby County Chamber Alliance and communities contribute around 25% of the counties sales tax revenue, jobs and almost 30% of the property tax revenue.

We are proud to announce that Millington Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Chris Thomas has been invited to serve on the Economic Development Committee of newly elected Shelby County Mayor Mickell Lowery’s Transition Team.

Chris will represent the Shelby County Chamber Alliance on the committee, providing an important voice for Millington and the other municipalities and communities throughout Shelby County outside of Memphis.

This appointment provides an opportunity to share the perspective of our local businesses and communities as Shelby County looks at its economic development priorities and opportunities for the future.

We believe strong economic development happens when communities work together, share ideas and make sure all areas of the county have a seat at the table.

Congratulations to Chris on this opportunity to represent the Chamber Alliance and the Millington business community. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this service can have for our community and our region.

Millington is growing—and the momentum is unmistakable!

At Tuesday’s Chamber luncheon, City Manager Frankie Dakin shared an exciting update on the investments shaping our community’s future. Millington is now the fastest-growing city in West Tennessee, with hundreds of new homes planned and major developments moving forward.

Among the highlights were Target and Academy, which will bring approximately 200,000 square feet of new retail to Millington. The new VA clinic is now open, expanding access to important healthcare services for area veterans, and a new $40 million aviation-focused TCAT has been announced—an investment that will create valuable education and workforce-development opportunities in our community.

City Manager Dakin also discussed increased police staffing, continued improvements to our parks, progress at Big Creek Park and plans to update Millington’s long-range master plan.

Thank you to City Manager Dakin for sharing Millington’s vision and to everyone who joined us. Our city has tremendous momentum, and the Chamber is proud to support the businesses, leaders and community partners helping move Millington forward!
