Early this morning Millsboro and mutual aid companies were dispatched to a working fire on the end of a multi residential building off of York Circle.

Crews arrived to find fire through the roof. A second alarm was sounded, bringing in additional resources to assist on scene. No injuries were reported, but the fire caused severe damage to the building.

Thank you to all the surrounding fire companies that assisted in this early morning emergency.

The cause of the fire will be investigated by the Delaware State Fire Marshall’s office.

This months junior training incorporated basic vehicle rescue techniques including scene safety measures, stabilization, glass removal, securing batteries, door removals and simple roof removal.

This training provides the juniors with entry level hands on training prior to going to the Delaware State Fire School

On Saturday May 30, members from the Millsboro Fire Company participated in the 5th Annual RALLY For Our First Responders

The Mission of this event is to "Honor and Support Delaware's First Responders" by raising awareness, showing appreciation and providing meaningful support.

We take this opportunity to thank the Shaffer Foundation of Delaware for the invitation to participate in this great event and look forward to next years event!

Snuffy was a wonderful neighbor and friend to Millsboro, our community has lost a public servant that filled many hats over the years. Rest easy Sir.

Gumboro Volunteer Fire Company is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Lifetime Member Sherman “Snuffy” Smith.

Snuffy dedicated countless years of service to both our company and the fire service community. He proudly served as Past President, Vice President, and Secretary of Gumboro Volunteer Fire Company, as well as a dedicated member of the Fire Police. Beyond our company, he also served as Past President of the Sussex County Fire Police Association, demonstrating his leadership and commitment across the county.

His dedication, leadership, and unwavering service will leave a lasting impact on all who had the privilege to serve beside him.

We extend our deepest condolences to the Smith Family during this difficult time.

A funeral service officiated by Pastor Leza Smack will be held at the Gumboro Volunteer Fire Company, 37030 Millsboro Hwy, Millsboro, DE 19966, on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at 3:00PM with a viewing from 1:00PM to 3:00PM prior to the start of the service.
