Monday Night Training:

On Monday Night we tested all of our 2-1/2” Supply Hose & the 1-3/4” & 2-1/2” hand lines on 3917.

We tested over 1000’ of 2-1/2” & 400’ of 1-3/4” and all hose passed.

Last Monday Night we trained on Drafting with the added technique of a jet siphon.

Jet siphoning is a vital water supply tool used primarily in rural fire fighting situations where we need a large water supply. It’s used to quickly shuttle water from one dump tank to the next.

3912 was deployed to draft and send water to 3919. 3912 pushed water though an 1-3/4” line into the second dump tank to create the jet siphon to the tank we were drafting out of.

Additional crews trained on running & pumping 3919 with ladder operations.

Last night, we trained with Fire Extinguishers. This is a yearly OSHA requirement training. When using a Fire Extinguisher remember the P.A.S.S system.

It is also important to know and use the correct extinguisher for the job

Type A - Ordinary Combustibles (Wood,paper,cloth,trash,plastics)
Type B - Flammable Liquids
Type C - Electrical Equipment
Type D - Combustible Metals
Type K - Cooking Oils & Fats

Most households will carry ABC Fire Extinguishers which is a multi-purpose tool filled with monoammonium phosphate dry chem. It safely puts out the three common types of household & workplace fires.

TRAINING UPDATES:

We apologize for not posting much lately. We’ve taken a few weeks to catch our New Probationary Members up with SCBA’s, Donning & Doffing Gear two of them started BOFF Fighterfighter I/II class.

Last week we installed iPads & did NERIS Report Training.

On Monday Night we competed in our 2026 Pumper Wars. Sometimes training can still be fun and competitive. We set 3911 & 3912 up at the dump tank. This tests our efficiency & speed. Getting the truck into pump gear, pulling a draft & then sending to the hand line. First one who gets water gets the other guy on the end of their hose line wet. It was a great training that ended with our new guys practicing drafting to empty the tank.

Our Millstadt Fire Department Golf Scramble will be held on Saturday, September 19th at Triple Lakes Golf Course! Registration is at 7AM followed by a Shotgun start at 8 AM.

HAPPY 250th BIRTHDAY AMERICA!

Today, while you gather with friends & family to celebrate our great nation & the freedoms we are fortunate to enjoy, remember all those who have served & sacrificed for those great Freedoms!

We wish everyone a safe & enjoyable Independence Day. If you celebrate with Fireworks, enjoy them from a safe distance & have water nearby!

It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of one of our Retired Firefighters, Elmer "Butch" Hettenhausen.

Butch was a proud supporter of everything Millstadt & was a devoted member in many organizations in town. He joined the Millstadt Union Fire Department in 1979, serving 48 years on our active & retired rolls. Butch served as the President of our Fire Department for over 20 years and was also Secretary for many years following. Though retired, he was still very active, rarely missing the opportunity to show up to Monday Night Trainings, as well as helping at our BBQ, Picnic, & Golf Scramble! He served with pride & honor, and answered countless calls when he was an active firefighter, who left a lasting impact on each of us that had the privilege to serve alongside him.

Please keep Elmer's wife, Sharon, his two sons, David & Jeffrey, and his entire family in your thoughts & prayers. Rest Easy, Butch. Thank you for your dedication & your service to our Department & Community.
