Reminder to our residents - Fire District elections are this Saturday from 2 pm to 9 pm. Please come out and vote!

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I'm writing to ask for your support in the upcoming Fire District Elections held on February 21st for an important investment in our community's safety: the purchase of a new fire truck for our local department.

Our current fire truck has served us well, but it is aging and increasingly costly to maintain. The truck we are seeking to replace is 31 years old. Newer equipment would provide improved reliability for our members and our community. In this past year alone the fire truck needed to have a hole fixed in the water tank and is currently in need of repairs to the transmission module. Parts are becoming hard to find due to the age of the truck.

We have been working with the USDA and our US Congressional representatives on a grant application from the federal government. We have received preliminary approval from the USDA and support from our township, county, and state representatives with this application process. The next step is we need your approval to purchase the new fire truck as part of the application requirements. As there is no guarantee we will receive funding, we can't apply without voter approval.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us and we can discuss this further. As always, our Board of Fire Commissioners Meeting are open to the public and we encourage you to attend. Meetings are held the third Wednesday of the month at 7:30 pm.

Respectfully,

Norris J. Welch
Chief of the Department

As of 7 am this morning, all four Maurice River Township Fire Departments (Cumberland, Heislerville, Leesburg and Port Elizabeth) will be dispatched simultaneously to all fire related emergencies within the township. This will be implemented Monday through Friday from 6 am until 6 pm. You will hear it dispatched as a Task Force based on the incident's local station number. The purpose of this is to eliminate any delays and provide the best service we can while remaining fully volunteer. If any resident has any questions, feel free to contact us or your local department. As always, we are all accepting applications for new volunteer members.
