Timothy Hilton, PhD is a Professor of Social Work at Eastern Washington University. His scholarly interests include homelessness and poverty as well as employment and low-wage work. He will give us an update on the current housing situation in Spokane and whether there is anything being done or can be done to ameliorate the socioeconomic plight of the unhoused.
* Update from regional DSA meeting (Sunday)
* Retrospective on city council homelessness round-table
* Dorothy Day Labor Forum updates
* Call for any new committees

Action items:
* Shall we continue to be on Twitter/X given Elon Musk's relationship with the Trump regime?
* Supporting INWCLP (and Vets for Peace and DDLF) in an open letter and possible picketing of Trader Joe’s until they remove all imports from Israel
* Ask people to write to our senators / representatives and show our displeasure and criticism of the DNC.
* Plan holiday social / open house at the Hive

Regarding December 6th Sheriff Department and Local Law Enforcement use of intimidation at Camp Hope.

"The Spokane Chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America stands in solidarity with our Camp Hope Community.



The fear mongering and intimidation used by the Sheriff's Department and Local Law Enforcement to hand out inaccurate flyers is a waste of resources and is counterproductive to creating a safe environment and finding our houseless community permanent, supportive housing.



We are thankful for Jewels Helping Hands and other local groups for stepping up where our government has failed.



We cannot ignore the astronomical rise in the cost of living and the unprecedented amount of homeless people in our community, including our youth.



We are a community that is always stronger together.



Spokane DSA believes housing and access to quality healthcare are fundamental human rights.”

This is a reminder that our regular meeting for November is today from 1 to 3 pm. Come join us and our Speaker Dr. Tim Hilton. He will be discussing Homlessness and Camp Hope.
Continuing our mutual aid work for the residents of Camp Hope, we will be collecting donations of cold weather supplies like hand warmers, blankets, and boots.

At our last meeting we discussed Camp Hope and the pressure they are facing from our officials. The idea of shutting down a community, when there are not enough available shelters. SpokaneDSA stands with our Camp Hope Community and are keeping an eye on what's going on.
