STORM UPDATE – December 09, 2025, at 3:00 pm from Mid-American Energy:
The weather forecast is definitely reminding us we live in the Midwest, with various winter and wind advisories across our service area starting tonight into Wednesday. MidAmerican Energy crews are preparing to respond to any potential outages and for a wide array of potential impacts like we do for any potential threat to our system. While the current forecast doesn’t call for significant snowfall, we are preparing for the likelihood of near white-out and blizzard conditions, including blowing and drifting snow, particularly in the northwestern and northern parts of our service area. Strong winds can threaten trees and power lines, ice buildup or packed snow on overhead lines cause them to gallop, which is what happens when the lines start bouncing violently. Galloping can damage lines and components, sometimes leading to outages. MidAmerican crews are prepared and ready to respond to whatever severe weather hits tonight and tomorrow.
Following any major storm, it’s important for the public to be aware of the danger posed by fallen power lines. If you see a downed line, always assume it’s energized and don’t approach it. Contact MidAmerican and we’ll respond to any report of a downed line to ensure it’s safe. Please note, we do have employees out in the field who are monitoring downed wires to help keep the public safe.
In the case of a power outage, you can report it online, via social media or by calling us at 888-427-5632. We also encourage customers to opt in for text and email notifications via My Account in order to receive repair updates.
As always, we are here to support you as our customer and community partner – 24/7, 365. We will provide updates on our website as well as through our social media channels. I will also provide updates as they become available.
We will continue to monitor the forecast and track the storm’s progress as the day goes on and will adjust our plans as needed. Also, we’ll continue to provide updates on our website to keep you up to date on the latest impacts and our progress.
