On Sunday, May 31st, the Spring Sprint at Uvas Triathlon will take place in the Uvas area, bringing increased numbers of athletes, support crews, and spectators to our local roads.

Motorists are asked to use extra caution and be alert for bicyclists, runners, and pedestrians along:

β€’ Uvas Road
β€’ Chesbro Road
β€’ Sycamore Road
β€’ Watsonville Road

Please slow down, share the road, and allow extra travel time if you plan to be in the area. Your patience and attention help ensure a safe and successful event for all participants and residents.

A map is attached for the event route.

This past week, members of the Uvas Volunteer Fire Department had the opportunity to assist with training at the Silicon Valley Career Technical Education (SVCTE) Fire Science and First Responder Program.

SVCTE provides high school students with hands-on career technical education opportunities, preparing the next generation of firefighters, EMS personnel, and public safety professionals through classroom instruction, practical skills training, and real-world experiences.

We were honored to spend time with these dedicated students, helping them develop their firefighting and emergency response skills while sharing our passion for the fire service. Their enthusiasm, professionalism, and commitment to serving their communities were truly impressive.

Congratulations to the SVCTE Fire Science and First Responder Class of 2026 graduates! Your hard work and dedication have paid off, and we wish each of you success as you continue your journey in public safety, higher education, or future careers in emergency services.

Thank you for allowing Uvas Volunteer Fire Department to be part of your training experience. We were proud to train alongside you and look forward to seeing many of you in the fire service in the years ahead.

Some people spend their whole youth figuring out who they want to be, but Sean Walsh already knew. He wanted to protect others. He began that noble mission right here as an enthusiastic Santa Clara Police Department Explorer, before answering the call to serve as a California National Guard Military Police Soldier. On November 16, 2011, while serving in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom, Sean tragically made the ultimate sacrifice. He was just 21 years old.

Today, as we join a grateful nation in honoring the fallen, we remember Sean. We honor the bright ambition and the extraordinary courage of a local boy who gave everything for his country. May your Memorial Day be reflective of the heavy cost of our daily freedom and the endless gratitude we owe to those who never made it home.

Last night at approximately 9:30 PM, County Fire received a request from County Rangers for a reported high-angle rescue involving a subject down a ravine off Croy Road. Due to the challenging terrain and remote location, the County Urban Search & Rescue Team was dispatched to assist.

County Sheriff’s Office assumed command of the incident and utilized a drone to assist crews in locating the subject.

Your UVAS FIRE volunteers responded and provided support throughout the incident alongside our partner agencies.

We are proud of the teamwork and coordination displayed by all personnel involved in helping bring this incident to a safe resolution.
