🎂 You're Invited to the 90th Birthday Parade for Ruth Jones! 🍰
At 90-years-old, Ruth Jones has seen pretty much seen it all.
"I grew up without electricity on Munson highway in Milton, and it was sweltering, but we didn't know anything different."
In the 1950s, she attended a prestigious business college in Chicago, married the love of her life, and moved to Minneapolis for more than 40 years. She says trying to recall that time is a blur.
"You have to remember, honey, I've lived a long time, and I've seen so much, it's hard to recall my day-to-day life back then. What I can tell you is I was safe, loved, and happy."
There is one tragedy she recalls vividly that changed America.
"When Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated, it was devastating and heartbreaking. I'm still so sad and tearing up just thinking about it."
But Ruth also has happy tears because if she knows anything, history has a way of repeating and redeeming itself.
"It's a tough time to be alive and to watch so many tragedies unfold, but I know at the heart of all of this, people are mostly good. We must forgive and love each other; that's the only way forward."
Jones says having love in her heart and acknowledging God in everything have always helped her overcome challenges and prevail.
"I moved back down to Milton after I lost my husband, and now, I'm on dialysis multiple times a week, but I don't let that darken my spirit. God has given me a great community, lifelong friends, and a sense of belonging everywhere I go."
As she looks to blow out 90 candles, she only has one wish.
"I wish for world peace."
And if that doesn't happen?
Ruth laughs and says, "Trust in the Lord and pray, baby; that's all you can do." ♥️
