Bagdad Fire Rescue The founding of Bagdad Fire Rescue started in 1962 with ten men. Dan Fowler became the first chief. In 1975 a third truck was built.

Since the station hadn't been built just yet, Bagdad Elementary provided a meeting place for the members to discuss business and other issues. DOF provided the first fire truck which was kept at the chief’s house until needed. When a call was dispatched, the chief would get the truck and take it to the scene while the chief's wife would call each firefighter, until all personnel were notified. Three years later, in 1965 the fire house was built on donated land and the second truck was acquired through donation. Bagdad became a fire district in the 1970s with a budget of only $40,000. In 1984 the first pagers were given out and the station was expanded to provide housing for the forth truck which was bought brand new. In 1997 brand new fire gear and a fifth truck was bought. The people of Bagdad and facilities from all over the community helped to make Bagdad what it is today. BVFD consists of about 31 members of both genders, two class-A 1,000 gallon pumpers, an E-1 rescue truck, an E-1 brush attack truck, and a 17' 5" Aqua Sport boat. BVFD proudly serves Bagdad and all of the neighboring communities. We thank you for allowing us to provide service to you for over 50 years.

We wanted to provide some clarification on debris removal passes.

There will be multiple passes for debris removal.

In a typical storm event, it takes an average of three passes to collect all debris from roadways. However, the amount of debris from this storm is far greater than usual.

Crews will make as many passes as necessary to collect all storm debris.

Residents will receive plenty of advance notice before the final pass is made, so everyone has time to ensure their debris is placed for collection.

Residents urged to refrain from burning hurricane debris

While there are no burn bans in place within the Hurricane Isaias impact area, residents are being asked to NOT BURN yard debris at this time for a number of reasons:

👮IT’S ILLEGAL: Burning of leaves, limbs and other yard trash is always prohibited within the City of Pensacola - Government, City of Gulf Breeze, City of Milton Florida and the City of Niceville regardless of emergency status.

📏DOESN’T MEET SETBACKS: Much of the impacted area is high density residential and cannot meet the required setbacks if not already prohibited by local ordinances. Those setbacks are that the pile must be less than 8 feet in diameter, 25 feet away from your home and the woodline or other combustible structure such as a fence or shed, 50 feet away from a paved public road and 150 feet from the nearest occupied building.

🚫NO AUTHORIZATIONS: The Florida Forest Service Blackwater Forestry Center is not authorizing acreage or large pile burns at this time.

🕰️NOT THE RIGHT TIME: Even if you were to meet all the requirements needed for small burn piles, many of our neighbors are either without power or working outside to clean up their homes and yards and the smoke is an unnecessary nuisance. Fresh, “green” wood creates very dense smoke and does not burn well and will only make a bad situation worse.

🍃WEATHER CONCERNS: High winds are forecast through the weekend and could make burning safely a challenge.

Florida Forest Service firefighters and other personnel are working alongside our emergency partners to help return our area to normal and this is not the time to add to the workload of firefighters and first responders or the stress of your neighbors.

Please place all vegetative debris at the roadside and utilize the county-contracted pickup services that are available.
