I am the fallen soldier, sailor, airman, and Marine the one who answered the call when the nation needed me.
Through every generation of American history, from Lexington and Concord to Iraq and Afghanistan, I stood the line against those who threatened our freedom.
The weapons, machines, and battlefields changed with time, but one thing never changed: it was always the warrior who carried the burden of war. I endured fear, hardship, sacrifice, and unimaginable loss so that others could live in peace and freedom.
But remember, I was more than a warrior. I was a son, daughter, brother, sister, husband, wife, father, and mother. I had hopes, dreams, and a future I willingly gave up in service to this country and its people.
This Memorial Day, remember the fallen not only for how they died, but for how they lived and what they sacrificed so others could enjoy life, liberty, family, and freedom. Honor them by never forgetting that freedom was purchased at the highest cost and by living lives worthy of their sacrifice.
