On Wednesday we had our first Vision Zero Summit in Milwaukee, a community wide gathering which focused on advancing Milwaukee’s commitment to eliminating traffic deaths by 2037.

My first action in office as Mayor was to declare reckless driving a Public Safety Crisis. The city adopted Vision Zero as a city policy in 2022 and we created and began implementing the Vision Zero Action Plan in 2024. We’ve come a long way since.

From 2024 to 2025 we saw traffic deaths decline by 19 percent and are down 26 percent from the peak in 2022.

I’d like to extend a special thank you to all our sponsors, event coordinators, participants, and community supporters. Thank you as well to the Mayor of Hoboken for coming all the way from her own city of Hoboken New Jersey to speak.

This progress is not accidental. It’s the result of coordinated action across government and community, and when we come together like this it creates real change and saves lives.

In this Year of Housing, every city department is contributing to creating safer housing with better affordability, and greater accessibility to housing opportunities. The Department of Neighborhood Services has reported that at the end of May, they have done:

✅ 1,464 fire inspection,

✅$144 million in permitted projects complete that advance development, revitalization, and economic vitality;

✅Approved $299,850 for the Compliance Loan Program.

DNS is working hard to make sure Milwaukee residents live in homes that are safe and up to code, and making sure hard working Milwaukeeans have choices to help make homeownership more affordable. Make sure to visit city.milwaukee.gov/mayor/Year-of-Housing for more information.

Just a short time ago, Milwaukee feared it might lose one of its most beloved landmarks, The Domes. Today, that story has changed drastically. The opportunity to not only save The Domes, but reimagine them is now what the Milwaukee Domes Alliance is doing through a partnership with the Milwaukee County Parks. I had the opportunity to walk through the iconic space with Milwaukee Domes Alliance CEO Christa Beall Diefenbach and her team to discuss what their goals are for the iconic space at Mitchell Park. With the continued support and growing partnerships throughout our region, The Domes seem to have an optimistic future ahead. This is good for both our community and for conservation. I can’t wait to take my own family to explore all the upcoming developments.

This is the third consecutive year that I have spoken at Center of Urban Teaching Summer School Kick-Off event where aspiring educators begin to prepare and learn valuable skills to bring to their careers and the communities they serve.

Educators are at the core of our vibrant community, because they dedicate themselves to building a strong foundation for the future leaders, scholars, and all members of our community.

I remember every single teacher that I ever had, because they made me who I am today. I want to thank all the teachers of the past, today, tomorrow, and onward. Your work is vital, joyful, and powerful. Milwaukee sees your value and your purpose and we stand by you.

I’m very proud of what we’ve accomplished with our Mayor-MPS Kids Cabinet in our first year. This partnership has led to innovative ways to support our youth and created real impact reflected in the numbers. Carrying the momentum of this inaugural year forward, I look forward to the growth in this partnership and our initiatives. Together we are creating stronger support systems and methods of engaging our youth in the City of Milwaukee. Thank you for everyone who has contributed to this partnership.

Kicking off Pride Month this morning, county and city leadership came together because we stand united in our belief of simple truth, that in Milwaukee each of you belong.

Raising the Pride Flag today, we honor the LGBTQIA+ trailblazers that have fought for their place in the community, for their right to love and exist as their authentic selves.

What a fantastic start to Wisconsin Bike week!

Our first Mayor's Bike Ride of the season was a huge success! It was awesome to see so many of you out enjoying our beautiful city and checking out the new protected bike lanes that are making Milwaukee even safer for cyclists.

Whether you're commuting, running errands, or just out for some fresh air, these new lanes offer a scenic and secure way to get around. A big thank you to everyone who joined us and Bublr Bikes for providing free electric wheels for those who wanted one. Keep an eye out for details on my next ride – Saturday, August 29th at Riverside Park. We will start at 10:00 a.m.!
