Today officers from District 5 were able to volunteer with Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin to hand out almost 200 meals to those in need. We were joined by MFD, Safe and Sound, WestCare, and Alderman Stamper. We packed all the food in the bags and those receiving the food were able to drive right up and have it all loaded in for them! In a time where grocery prices are on a constant rise it is important to help those who need it. And a big thank you to The Q restaurant for providing their parking lot for the event!

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), candles cause 45% of home decoration fires in the month of December. Share this post to remind friends and family to keep candles at least 12” away from anything that can burn, like decorations, furniture, and curtains. Consider utilizing battery-operated flameless candles this year!

Don’t forget to include your Smoke Alarm friends in your holiday plans – make sure you have working smoke alarms on every level of your home including inside and outside of every sleeping area.

A few other tips to stay safe this season:
• practice your fire escape plans with holiday guests,
• and always .

Congratulations to Officer Harmon on his retirement from the Milwaukee Police Department after 25 years of distinguished service.

Before Officer Harmon’s first shift, his sister gifted him a pocket Bible. After carrying that Bible with him every day for the past 25 years, he was able to gift that Bible back to her.

Congratulations again PO Harmon on your well earned retirement!

Chief Norman spoke to middle schoolers at Messmer Saint Mary’s about what it means to be a member of MPD and the mission of the department. He also explained the importance of making good life decisions and gave guidance on how to succeed in reaching their goals.

Messmer Saint Mary’s has been hosting assemblies for their middle school students with regards to different career paths they can take after high school. The students were able to ask questions they had about what difficulties there are to join the department and the different specialty units you can join after going through the academy. Several young individuals expressed their interest in one day embarking in a law enforcement career. They were fascinated by the Police Cadet program and Police Aide programs that are offered to gain experience and insight into the life of being a police officer.
