About 2 weeks ago we brought a drive in movie to Fond du lac Avenue! It was a fun night and I am extremely thankful for our partners Parking Lot Theatre & Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin and our sponsors: The Tandem, Self Help Credit Union, Zilber Family Foundation and American Family Insurance Foundation - With you all, it was made possible and then accomplished!

Prior to this event, we lost our beloved board chair, Candace Hennessy, PHD, RN. Candy will be deeply missed and we will always remember her and her contributions to Marketplace BID 32.

Today, I remind you as she reminded us of the 3 W's: Wash your hands, Wear a mask, and Watch your distance. #LetsGrowTogether #MaskUpMKE

Stay tuned and stay safe.

Census 2020

The deadline to complete the 2020 Census has recently been extended through Saturday, October 31st.

2020 Census data will be used to determine the fair allocation of more than $675 billion in federal funds each year over the next 10 years to states and local communities. This money helps support education, housing, health programs and more. Wisconsin receives $12.6 billion annually based on census data. For every resident that goes uncounted, Wisconsin risks losing $1,600 every year over the next 10 years. The Census data will also determine how many seats Wisconsin has in the U.S. House of Representatives and in election wards – meaning an accurate count helps provide fair and equal representation.

Completing the Census, which consists of nine questions, takes minutes and can be done online by visiting www.My2020Census.govor by calling 1-844-330-2020. There are 13 different language options for respondents and your information is kept private. Information disclosed in Census surveys cannot, by law, be shared with any law enforcement agencies and is stored confidentially, without personally identifiable information.

We are so excited to have a little library in the neighborhood. If you have little ones, stop by and grab a book!

Milwaukee Business Restart Program 2.0 Now Underway!!!
The City of Milwaukee has launched a second round of the Milwaukee Business Restart Program -- using federal relief funds to assist established city businesses as they move to recover from setbacks related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

New details of the program are posted on the www.city.Milwaukee.gov/restartwebsite
Applications are being accepted until October 8, 2020.

Established City of Milwaukee businesses with 20 or fewer Full Time Equivalent employees and annual revenue of more than $0 and less than $2 million will be eligible to participate.
Businesses that previously received Restart grants are invited to apply again, but no business can receive a combined total of more than $25,000.

In addition to grants for personal protective equipment, restocking perishable inventory, and physical improvements to reduce COVID-19 spread, grantees can use money from this round of Restart for some rent and utility payments and winterizing outdoor spaces.

In this round of the Restart program, several new categories of businesses can apply including home-based businesses, food trucks, licensed day cares and state licensed group homes.

Statement of Alderman Khalif J. Rainey, September 30, 2020
Renters must submit key document to landlord to avoid eviction.

If you are a renter and you want to be covered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID-19 moratorium on evictions, it has been brought to my attention that you must first submit a document to your landlord.

Renters can go tohttps://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/downloads/declaration-form.pdf and complete the form, which must then be presented to the landlord. Evictions for failure to pay rent are legal if the tenants do not sign a declaration, despite the CDC moratorium.

Please remember that there are activities and violations that will not protect renters from being evicted – such as things that threaten the health and safety of neighbors and the community, including nuisance and criminal activities.

I strongly urge renters to take action to protect themselves from eviction as soon as possible.
Don’t wait and find out that you were too late!
