In March of 2020, the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) Open Records Counter was closed to protect the health and safety of the public due to COVID-19. Since then, MPD Open Records Section has received approximately 450 requests each week and is currently processing a backlog of requests. With social distancing limitations in place, the Open Records Counter is now reopening to the public under new hours on Tuesday, May 4, 2021. The MPD Open Records Counter will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and is located on the second floor of Milwaukee Police Department District Three (2333 N 49th St.).

The MPD Open Records Counter’s purpose is to fulfill simple and specific public records requests as quickly as possible.

Requests for records requiring time-intensive review (such as incident reports concerning violent crimes or audio/video files) cannot be fulfilled at the counter. To ensure that as many people as possible can receive their records the day they arrive to the counter, time-intensive requests will be processed with the general backlog of records requests, in the order in which they were received. Time-intensive open records request can be submitted at [email protected].

Requests for accident reports, citations, computer aided dispatch logs, and non-violent incident reports can be fulfilled at the public counter.

If a request cannot be fulfilled at the counter, the requestor will be asked to fill out a request form and the request will be processed as soon as possible and without delay, in the order it was received by MPD Open Records Section.

If you have any questions regarding records requests, please contact MPD Open Records Section at (414) 935-7502.

District One is proud to support Sexual Assualt Awareness Month (#SAAM), and #TeamTeal365 with Painting the City Teal Day on Friday, April 2nd,2021!

Some of our officers and agency partners also took time to speak about why #SAAM is so important:

“I stand against sexaul assault because, no one has the right or privilege to destroy another person's life”.

“I stand against sexaul assault because of the devastation it leaves behind”.

“ I take a stand against sexual assault because so many victims feel like they don't have a voice and no one should feel like they are alone”.

And we’d also like to thank our community partners at House of Harley Milwaukee for helping in the participation with this Teal Bike!

Below was a letter received by the Captain of District One showing a Sergeant taking the extra time to help a citizen.

Dear Captain Campbell,

On this past Monday, March 1st, I drove down to Milwaukee from Hartford to photograph the Covid-19 flower memorial. I am having a photo exhibit at a local library, and wanted to take a photo of the flower memorial for the final photo in my exhibit.

I drove to the art museum, where the article that I read said that the exhibit was to be, but did not see any sign of it. I looked at the article and drove around the area quite a few times . . . still no sign of the exhibit.

My last attempt was driving near Harbor House, and as I approached I saw a police car parked in the lot near a group of people taking wedding photos.

I was quite fortunate to come upon Sgt. Lemke, as he was exceedingly kind. Not only did Sgt. Lemke ascertain where the exhibit was, but he had me follow him to the exact location!

Politics and social issues greatly interest me, and so I asked a few questions and Sgt. Lemke generously took a few moments to answer my questions and gave me insights to the current issues.

My mom was with me, and she has a bit of dementia. Sgt. Lemke took time to talk with her, which was certainly lovely.

I have told a great many friends about the exceedingly wonderful Sgt. Lemke, but wanted to make certain that you knew how taking a few minutes out of his day made my day exceptional!

More Sgt. Lemkes would change the world!

Sincerely,
Kate
