Success story, with a warning...

MPD was alerted by a citizen this past weekend about this bike having been abandoned on the East Side. A check of police reports and other databases turned up no results for who owned it. Luckily, the bike had a bike shop sticker on it and the shop had the owner's contact info, enabling us to reunite the owner and bike!

Turns out the bike was stolen 3 months ago when the cable lock was cut from in front of the owner's job.

With no police report and no registration (we recommend BikeIndex.org), this bike would have joined hundreds of other recovered bikes in the Milwaukee area that never make it home, had it not been for the bike shop sticker.

Follow these 3 simple steps to protect your bikes:

Properly lock your bike (cable locks are insufficient in Milwaukee).
Report to police when your bike is lost or stolen.
Register your bike with BikeIndex.org

Thank you so much for your visit today!!! It was our pleasure to meet Imre and his family. We're proud to serve and protect you and the rest of Milwaukee. Your gifts, words and efforts to comfort the members of the MPD are so appreciated. The tasty treats went directly to Officer Michalski's coworkers, the fine men and women working at the Special Investigations Division.

Today, as promised, the kids and I (and Auntie Mattie!) set out to bring a little bit of joy to other people's lives.

Our first #FeelGoodFriday was an absolute honor. This week, our city lost one of it's fine officers. Our whole city is at a loss, Officer Michalski was a husband and father to three children, and a 17 year veteran to the force, who lost his life in the line of duty. We decided that no one deserves a little bit more light today than our friends at the Milwaukee Police Department, so we picked up a cake and cupcakes, and brought them down so that the men and women who bring so much to our lives and keep us SAFE could see how much we love, appreciate, and support them. On our way out, we ran into these fine gentlemen. Not only did they want to take pictures with Imre, they also gave both Imre and Harlyn their own Junior Police "badges". It was such an honor to be able to thank these men personally for serving and protecting our city, and it was amazing to see DOZENS of people (in the 20 minutes we were there) bringing flowers, balloons, and cards to the memorial for Officer Michalski.

Thank you for making the kids' WHOLE day.💙💙 And thank you to all of the peacekeepers across the world, who help us sleep better at night knowing you're out there.💙
