Good Jobs and a Career In Service and Hospitality – MASH

Our Raise WI campaign in 2014 led directly to the victory for a community benefits agreement covering end-use jobs in the new arena and surrounding development in downtown Milwaukee. Now, Milwaukee Area Service & Hospitality Workers Organization has launched to implement the agreement for $15 and a union jobs with a hiring hall. Workers who want good, living wage jobs with career pathways in the service and hospitality sectors should sign up with MASH at http://mashworkers.org/signup

MASH raises standards for service and hospitality sector employment. We are an organization of service and hospitality workers. We raise wage floors, so our jobs pay a living wage. We uphold workers’ rights, so our jobs provide economic security and respect in the workplace. We provide training, p...

Scott Walker’s Cynical New Plan To Drug Test Everyone Who Receives Unemployment Or Food Stamps

#ICYMI - From Think Progress: Gov. Scott Walker (R) will propose a system for drug testing everyone who receives unemployment insurance or food stamps from the state.

Drug testing for public assistance recipients has found lower rates of drug use among people on the dole than among the general population, and costs taxpayers lots of money in the process. Gov. Scott Walker (R) plans to replicate that failure in Wisconsin.

Voters create paradox as they support higher minimum wage

“To really make ends meet and keep my head above the water and possibly pull my body out of the water, it would take $17.27,” Madison, WI Popeye's worker Motise Reynolds tells The Guardian.

Unions managed to pass the minimum wage in four states, but failed to unseat lawmakers hostile to the labor movement

How does this make you feel?

We've confirmed with a small business in a Simon Malls property that their business will be fined $1,100 PER HOUR if they choose to remain closed on Black Thursday.

What's worse? The large retailers negotiate smaller fines because they have more leverage, so small businesses get screwed, as usual. The fines are so steep that these small shops can't afford to buck the trend even if they love Thanksgiving.

Walker Won, Now What? - JSOnline

"Every single place where voters had the opportunity to vote on raising wages, they voted in favor," Jennifer Epps-Addison in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The day after election day, many progressives woke up to what feels like a reoccurring nightmare. Despite our best efforts and the feeling in the air during our get out the vote (GOTV) effort, Scott Walker was re-elected.
