Long post. Sorry.
Over the last couple of weeks, I gave myself something I haven’t had much of lately: time to be still. Time to find some peace. Time to reflect.
And one of the things I’ve reflected on most is how quickly we judge people in public office without always seeing what happens behind the scenes. Believing in one constructed narrative.
Choosing to become an elected official, a public servant entrusted with defending people’s rights, standing up against injustice, and helping shape the laws that impact our communities, is an incredible honor. But it is also hard.
Public service can mean giving up your privacy. Missing time with your family. Losing clients and opportunities in your business. Carrying the weight of other people’s problems while managing your own. Having your character questioned publicly. Learning to grow a very thick skin while trying not to lose the softness that made you care enough to serve in the first place.
And sometimes, it means standing your ground when it would be much easier to stay quiet.
I have learned that I am willing to do that.
I will say no. I will stand my ground. I will put a halt to injustice when I see it. And if standing up for what I believe is right means being the punching bag for a while, then so be it.
Having behind-the-scenes disagreements and political drama play out publicly is not for the weak. But those moments have also reminded me why I entered public service in the first place. I came here because our communities deserve people at the table who understand them, who will speak up for them, and who won’t disappear when things get uncomfortable.
At the end of this legislative session, I get to look back at what we accomplished, the people we helped, the conversations we changed, the doors we opened, and the voices that were finally heard.
That is the reward.
So this is my BIG THANK YOU to every person who continued to believe in this mission. To everyone who believed in me when things got difficult. To everyone who gave me patience and grace. To those who knocked doors, made calls, donated, shared a post, defended our work, encouraged me privately, prayed for me, checked on me, or simply cast their vote.
And especially to everyone who believes, as deeply as I do, that every immigrant deserves a voice in our State Capitol and every community deserves to know that they belong in the decisions being made about their future.
Thank you.
Because this movement didn’t just win one race this cycle.
Together, we won TWO.
And I could not be more proud knowing that the people of the South Side of Milwaukee will have representation rooted in our communities and committed to fighting for our immigrant families.
To my family, supporters, volunteers, constituents, colleagues, mentors, friends, and everyone who has contributed to the Priscilla for Assembly campaign: thank you for your patience. Thank you for your grace. Thank you for your love. And thank you for continuing to believe.
The reflection was necessary. The rest was necessary. But now, we’re ready.
As a new cycle begins, I want this one to be defined by unity, purpose, courage, and the understanding that we accomplish so much more when we do it together.
Juntos Hacemos Más. ❤️
