Today is #WorldSightDay, an annual event that brings global attention to preventable blindness and vision impairment. Did you know that Lions Clubs International, #SightFirst campaign, was the first to initiate World Sight Day in 2000? LEBW is proud to be affiliated with the Lions Clubs of Wisconsin and the wonderful work they do here in Wisconsin and around the world, helping to prevent curable blindness and vision impairment.

Camp Director Andrea here! Soul Sunday has me both sad and comforted. Today, we would have started our last full week of campers. And let me tell you, it's harder than I thought to let this week go with grace. I will be perfectly honest-this summer has been the most challenging of my life; disappointing campers, families and staff, missing hugs and high fives from all of them, and having to look at an empty camp. But then an email from one of our wonderful camper parents landed in my inbox with a photo - of these lovely ladies who made it to Camp during our last week of being open and they put together this photo for all of our staff who were feeling ill. And that my friends - is Camp love in action. We pulled off three weeks in super challenging situations, we had a dedicated core of 25 young adults who still came and worked hard in this situation, we completed so many work projects, and we still managed to have Camp while learning so much for next year. I so appreciate that even when I am feeling sad, our camp family comes along and shares another wonderful reminder of just how lucky we all are to be a part of Wisconsin Lions Camp. Thank you ladies - this message was needed for all of us this week.

Grateful recipient, George, suffered from Keratoconus, a disorder that results in progressive thinning of the cornea, for most of his life. As his vision began to deteriorate, his options were minimal. In September 2019, George had his diseased cornea removed, and the surgery went perfectly well! However, George was saddened when he began to think of the gift he was given - "To think of saving and helping others in a time of deep sorrow shows real courage and true selflessness. I thank them for it and truly consider their gift the greatest I will ever receive."
