On the evening of September 8th, Cogar Fire responded to a school bus accident west of Minco.

Our crews assisted with patient care alongside many other first responders. Scenes like this are intense and move quickly, but it was encouraging to see how everyone worked together with one goal — protecting lives.

We are thankful for the outcome. Despite the bus rolling multiple times with several ejections, there were no fatalities. That is nothing short of a blessing.

Please keep the Minco Schools softball team, their families, and all the responders in your prayers as they process and recover from this difficult event.

We appreciate all the support from the Cogar community.

NOAA Weather Radio stations across central and western Oklahoma and western north Texas will be off the air starting this morning (Tue June 3) and continuing through June 5th.

We always talk about the importance of having multiple ways to receive weather warnings, so if one method doesn't work, you can still get it from another source. These next few days will be one of those times when it's important to have those alternate sources for warnings.

The timing of this software update is not ideal, but these were the dates selected for us. Despite the timing, it does not change the way we will serve our public and partners. NWS Norman meteorologists will still be doing all the things we do during severe weather. The office will be fully staffed with our meteorologists analyzing the local weather, watching radar, talking to emergency management and media partners and issuing tornado, severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings when they're needed. The only difference this time will be that we won't be able to broadcast those warnings using NOAA Weather Radio in our area. You will get warnings just like always on local television and radio stations, the internet, social media, weather apps on your phone, and through any local warning systems your community might have.

After a swift response and quick extinguishing of a grass fire today we were moping up when the squeaks of fear were heard coming from a fallen tree that had caught fire. The fire fighters there quickly began a search and rescue mission and we are very happy to say the 3 baby squirrels were saved and removed from danger.

Alvin was one of the founding members of our Fire Department. He would always have a disposable camera in his gear and when the situation cooled down, he would take pictures of everyone. Alvin stood by my side on my very first fire. In addition to responding to all the emergency calls he would always keep the trucks running and full of fuel. Alvin loved serving his community and will be missed dearly!

Obituary: George Alvin Lehman was born on June 16, 1930, to George A. and Retta (Sanders) Lehman in a Caddo County farmhouse and walked on from this life at OU Medical Center on January 10, 2025, at the age of 94. He was a proud citizen of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation and was a descendant of the Bruno and Rhodd families.

Alvin was raised in Oklahoma and attended school until the 8th grade, when he began helping his dad on the farm—building terraces and fencing, harvesting corn and cotton, and bailing hay. As a young man he drove a school bus for East Walnut Schools. He met his first wife, Lois Renfro, and they were soon married. In 1951, Alvin enlisted in the army and was stationed at Ft. Lewis, Olympia, Washington. They welcomed their first child, Alvin Keith Lehman, in 1954. Alvin was honorably discharged as Corporal (T) in 1955, and the family returned to Oklahoma. They purchased the Cogar Store at the intersection of Hwy 152 and 37, along with his parents, and Alvin worked as a mechanic and welder. They welcomed a daughter, Cheryl, in 1960 and continued to live there until 1965.

Alvin married Vera Andrews on January 28, 1968, and they made their home in Bixby and Beggs, where Alvin worked as a heavy machine mechanic and welder at Albert Equipment Company and Sabre Internation until his retirement in 1995. After retirement, Alvin and Vera returned to the family farm where he lived until his passing.

Alvin was preceded in death by his wife, Vera, in 2015; parents, George and Retta Lehman; sister, Odellia Henderson; and brothers, Leroy, Gene, and Carl Lehman.

Alvin is survived by his son, Keith Lehman; daughter Cheryl Lockstone and husband, Barrett Williamson; sister, Elaine Greer; sister- in- law, Pat Lehman, 5 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will hold a private family service and will spread his ashes on the land he cherished.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in memory of Alvin Lehman to the Cogar Volunteer Fire Department, CS2720 & State Hwy 152, Minco, OK 73059, (405) 352-5233, https://www.facebook.com/cogarfire/
