This past Friday, I had the pleasure of joining the 3rd and 4th grade students at Jackson Avenue School in Mineola for their Flag Day celebration.

It was a privilege to speak with these young students about the importance of Flag Day, what our American flag represents, and the value of serving our communities. Their enthusiasm, patriotism, and thoughtful participation made the event especially meaningful.

Flag Day, observed each year on June 14, commemorates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States in 1777. More than just a symbol, our flag represents the freedoms, opportunities, and shared values that unite Americans across generations. It also serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who have defended our nation and the responsibility we all share to be active and engaged citizens.

Thank you to the students, teachers, and staff of Jackson Avenue School for inviting me to be part of this wonderful celebration. It is always inspiring to see the next generation learning about our nation's history and the importance of giving back to their communities.

This morning, I was honored to attend Herricks High School's Senior Awards Ceremony and present the Nassau County Legislative Leadership Award to Emma Su.

As President of the Student Council, Emma has demonstrated exceptional leadership, dedication, and service to the Herricks school community. Her commitment to helping others and making a positive impact has earned the respect of her peers, teachers, and community alike. Congratulations, Emma, on this well-deserved recognition, and best wishes for a bright and successful future!

I would also like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all graduating seniors. Your hard work, perseverance, and determination have brought you to this important milestone. Each of you should be proud of your accomplishments and the effort it took to get here.

As you begin the next chapter of your lives, whether it be college, career, military service, or another path, I wish you continued success and happiness. Congratulations, Class of 2026—we are proud of you and look forward to all you will achieve!

With extreme temperatures expected, I encourage all residents to take precautions to stay safe during this heat wave.

County Cooling Centers are open and available to anyone needing relief from the heat. If you do not have adequate air conditioning or are concerned about the high temperatures, please take advantage of these facilities.

✅ Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
✅ Avoid prolonged outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day.
✅ Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
✅ Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.

Please take a few moments to check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone who may be vulnerable to extreme heat. A simple phone call or visit can make a big difference.

And don't forget our furry friends—make sure pets have access to shade, fresh water, and a cool place to rest.

Let's look out for one another and stay safe during these dangerous heat conditions.
