DA Donnelly visited campers with the P.E.A.C.E. Afterschool Program today to celebrate their last day of summer camp and give them back-to-school supplies!

Over the last few weeks, NCDA has been collecting donations to help local students get ready for the new school year. Having a brand-new backpack and fresh materials can give kids the confidence and excitement they need to step back into the classroom ready to learn. Big thanks to everyone who helped make this backpack giveaway possible!

P.E.A.C.E. (Partnerships in Education to Avoid Criminal Justice System Entry) works to bridge educational gaps through enrichment opportunities for local children. Their last day of summer S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math) camp was held at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City.

Through Operation SAFE CHILD, NCDA has produced nearly 20,000 ID cards for children in Nassau County. We are the only district attorney’s office in the state to administer the program!

DA Donnelly explains how these free ID cards give parents peace of mind should their child ever go missing. Having critical, descriptive information about a child right away dramatically increases the chances of police bringing them home safely.

DA Donnelly announced the grand jury indictment of Joseph Horner, 27, on charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and first-degree r**e. He is accused of ra**ng and killing his own sister-in-law in their shared home while his wife, the victim’s sister, was out of town.

“Joseph Horner allegedly lured his unsuspecting sister-in-law with an innocuous favor, strangled, and brutally r**ed her in her own bed,” said DA Donnelly. “This vicious attack was the act of a deranged individual suffering from an unrequited love and sick lust dating back nearly a decade.”

Since May, there have been more than 40 reported incidents in Nassau County of checks stolen from outdoor mailboxes, before being altered and cashed by someone else. Total estimated losses exceed $400,000. DA Donnelly explains what to watch out for and how to protect your money.

DA Donnelly was joined by Claudia Boyle, CEO of the Hispanic Counseling Center (HCC), to wrap up our Dress for Success donation drive!

Thanks to the generosity of NCDA staff, we collected more than 100 articles of clothing to help justice-involved individuals feel confident and build a fresh start.

These dress shirts, blazers, ties, and other professional attire will be donated to participants in HCC’s Substance Use Disorder Outpatient Program to hopefully give them the boost they need to walk into job interviews, make a great first impression, and take control of their next chapter.

DA Donnelly and Police Commissioner Ryder announced 6 men have been charged in one of the largest gun trafficking busts in Nassau County history.

The multi-agency investigation, led by NCDA’s Fi****ms Suppression and Intelligence Unit, recovered 47 illegal fi****ms, approximately 900 grams of co***ne, and 150 grams of he**in that the defendants allegedly trafficked into Queens and Nassau County.

NCDA thanks the NCPD, ATF, DEA, Suffolk Police Department, NYPD, and US Secret Service for their help in this monthslong investigation.
