Our Rotary meeting this past Monday featured an informative and wide-reaching presentation from Todd Witt with Wood County EDC and with the Upper Sabine Valley Waste Management District (USV). Todd detailed how USV is working to provide Wood County residents the ability to discard a variety of materials and have them become candidates for recycling instead of going straight into a landfill. This is in keeping with one of Rotary's Seven Areas of Focus: "Environmental Protection." Todd also offered numerous details about ways in which our natural beauty in East Texas is being highlighted in trails and parks projects including ones featuring Bigfoot and his "family."

At our most recent meeting, we were pleased to hear an eye-opening and informative presentation from Special Agent Jeff Williams of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), division of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Human trafficking and sexual exploitation are not things that we see firsthand, but they occur every day and often in our own neighborhoods.

Following this past Monday's noon meeting, members of the Mineola Rotary Club posed for a photo on the all-new "Rotary Bridge" at Mineola Civic Center. The bridge, originally constructed in the mid-1970's, spans a low area that provides for runoff after rains. The bridge had been repaired a number of times through the years and had fallen into disrepair once again. This recent effort, which included labor provided by members of the Rotary Club, was paid for by generous private donations. It marks the first time the bridge has ever undergone a complete, top-to-bottom overhaul. Also in attendance at the meeting were Carley Tucker of the Wood County Monitor; Lisa Bright, Executive Director of Mineola Civic Center; and Bill Martin, Rotary District 5830 Assistant Governor. Sincere thanks to all who had a part in this endeavor!

The Rotary year starts on July 1 so to all Rotarians, fans of Rotary and people of goodwill everywhere, Happy New Rotary Year! Mineola Rotary is celebrating its 82nd year as our GREAT country celebrates 250 YEARS! We'll be at Mineola Civic Center this Saturday, July 4, from 3-7 racing Hot Wheels cars and spreading the word about Rotary! Join us and stay for the free, patriotic Lake Country Symphonic Band concert and fireworks to follow!

We are proud to announce the completion of the all-new Rotary Bridge spanning the low, drainage area at Mineola Civic Center. Please stay tuned for a dedication ceremony to follow soon. In the meantime, this coming Saturday morning is the time for the Mineola Service Clubs Car Show at Mineola Civic Center. This show benefits Rotary, Kiwanis and Pilot. Please come show your support, have some great food-truck food and see some beautiful cars, trucks and motorcycles.

Our summer schedule starts in June and last through August. We will meet only on the first and third Mondays of each month. Then in September through May our regular schedule will be to meet every Monday with Holidays being the exception.
We meet at the Mineola Civic Center at noon and would enjoy you coming to visit.
