Your July 2026 calls for service.

We know legal wording on ballots can be confusing.

In simple terms:

We are asking to REPLACE the Ambulance portion of your property/real estate tax with a 1/2 Cent Sales tax.

If this proposition passes, you will see no ambulance tax levy on your property/real estate tax bill.

What We're asking for:

It's less about pennies... and more about preparedness.
The Sustainability Question would increase the ambulance district sales tax from ½¢ to 1¢ on every dollar spent.
For most purchases, the increase is only a few cents.
Those pennies help support:
Faster emergency response
Additional ambulance coverage
Modern lifesaving equipment
Continued emergency medical services for our community

How Much Is a Half Penny?
✔️ 1¢ on a $2 purchase
✔️ 5¢ on a $10 purchase
✔️ 10¢ on a $20 purchase
✔️ 25¢ on a $50 purchase
✔️ 50¢ on a $100 purchase

A few extra pennies at the register can help make a difference when someone calls 911.

As the 4th of July holiday and our nation's 250th birthday celebration draw near, we kindly remind everyone that an ambulance ride or fire department call can disrupt your celebrations. Let's focus on safety and enjoying the holiday.

The Miner Fire Department was recently invited to a special First Responder appreciation service at Compassion Church this past Sunday, where children had the opportunity to view one of our fire engines and command vehicles; Scott County Rural Fire was also invited and brought their Utility/Medical response truck.

From the Chief's desk to the residents of the City of Miner, I'd like to formally introduce myself. My name is Justin Gordon; in April 2026, I was appointed as the Fire Chief for the City of Miner by the City. A little about myself: I currently reside within the city limits of Miner with my wife and newborn daughter. I've been a resident of Scott County all my life and graduated from Sikeston senior high. I have 13 years of experience in the fire service and 4 years in EMS. I currently work full-time as an EMT-B with South Scott County Ambulance and also serve as Deputy Chief with Scott County Rural Fire Protection District. My goal with the City of Miner Fire Department is continued growth and development with the department and its personnel. As always, the health and safety of residents and those who travel throughout our city limits are top priorities for me. If anyone has any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to us through this department's Facebook Messenger. As always, if anyone is interested in volunteering with the Fire Department, you can fill out an application at our Fire Station; we typically meet every Tuesday at 6 pm. I hope to serve you all to the fullest extent and to the best of my abilities.
