Pocan Town Hall Wednesday May 27 & Other Upcoming Events

Hello, Everyone!

I write with some reminders of upcoming events.

First up, Wednesday May 27 Mark Pocan will be holding a town hall forum at the Mineral Point City Hall. The event begins at 3:00 p.m., and the address is 137 High St, Mineral Point, WI 53565.

Immediately after the Pocan town hall, the Iowa County party will be holding a discussion of plans for canvassing for the rest of 2026. AS I've noted before, we have some pretty substantial changes in mind for the coming months, and if you are at all interested in being part of this conversation, you are strongly encouraged to attend. We could also use help from people who do not want to do door-knocking, so if that is of any interest, please come!

And speaking of canvassing, Ben Gruber's campaign will be canvassing in Lafayette County on Saturday, May 30th. THere are two times that you can sign up for, at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
Pick whichever time works best for you and then sign up for the canvas on Mobilize: Drivers are also welcome!

On June 6th, Todd Larson will be hosting a campaign event for Governor candidate Sara Rodriguez at his farm near Blanchardville. The event runs from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Further details and registration info can be found here:

News has arrived that Mark Pocan will be holding a series of town halls in the western & southern parts of the 2nd Congressional District on May 26th and 27th. Three are reasonably close to us:

Tuesday, May 26th
3:30PM CT Darlington – Municipal Building
627 Main St
-and-
6:00PM CT Monroe – Courthouse
1016 16th Ave

Wednesday, May 27th
3:00PM CT: Mineral Point – City Hall
137 High St #1

I know that many of you have been to one or more of these things, but if you haven't you really should give yourself a chance to hear from him. What he has to say is always interesting!
See you soon.

Dear Fellow Democrats --

The Iowa County Dem Party will be holding our monthly meeting next Saturday April 11, 2026. On the agenda you will see that we will be electing delegates to the 2nd CD convention later in April (see below for more on this), considering possible resolutions for that convention and planning for the events that we will be hosting or participating in this coming summer. We have a lot ahead of us during a very busy year, so please do come if you can!

As you have heard previously, this year's 2nd Congressional District Convention will take place in Blanchardville on April 26th. See the attachment for details. Anyone, whether a delegate or not, can attend the convention; registration is $35 and includes lunch. It is also still possible to attend as a delegate from Iowa County, which would permit you to vote on the convention's business items, including election of officers and consideration of resolutions proposed for submission to state convention this summer. Delegates must be current, paid-up members of the state Democratic party. You can join the party either via this link https://wisdems.org/ or by coming to the meeting on April 11th.

To register for the convention, you can either use the QR code on the attached announcement or use this link 🔗, https://secure.actblue.com/donate/2ndcddemconvention

Events this Weekend

Hi Everyone --

Here are some upcoming events this weekend,

First off, I am sure that all of you already know about the No Kings rally in Dodgeville from 10:00 a,m, to noon on Saturday. As was the case last time in October, the rally will begin behind the county courthouse and then will continue as a parade down Iowa St. This one counts for displaying our resistance to Trump's ever-escalating authoritarian behavior, so let's have a big showing!

Next, on Sunday we will be canvassing in preparation for the April election. If you want to give canvassing a try, this is an excellent time to do so! We will be talking to Democratic voters, urging them to go out and support Chris Taylor for Supreme Court. These are generally pretty easy conversations. If you want to sign up on Mobilize, we will give you some training and send you out with a veteran canvasser.

Finally, on Sunday evening Ben Gruber will be holding a meet and greet in Highland from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The address is 709 Dodgeville St

Looking forward to seeing you this weekend.

April 7th Election and Mail-in Ballots

Hi, Everybody --

This is just a quick reminder to everyone that if you plan on mailing your ballot for the election on April 7th, you should get your ballot in the mail as soon as possible. The US Postal Service continues to face severe cuts, and the result is that mail takes longer to be delivered. By state law, mail-in ballots must be received in the clerk's office no later than 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, which is when the polls close. This suggests that you should take the ballot to your town/village/city clerk's office yourself, if that is feasible. In any case, don't let your vote be missed for failing to get it in on time.

And here's a reminder for residents of the City of Dodgeville. Early voting is now handled at the new City Hall at 410 E. Leffler St., but if you vote on Election Day that will take place at the Iowa County Law Enforcement building at 109 E. Leffler St.
Town of Dodgeville residents will vote in the usual place, at the Town Hall, 108 E. Leffler St.
It all makes me wish that I had a parking concession on Leffler!

Greetings:

After a long, snowy winter ... Are your ready to welcome Spring? If so, come to THAW FEST.

The event - sponsored by the White for State Senate Campaign - will be held on Saturday, March 21st from 6 PM - 9 PM at Brix Cider in Mt Horeb, WI. It will be a fun filled evening with lots of laughter, good cheer and talk about a Democrat winning the 17th Senate District race.

Music will be provided by The Red Door Duo. The duo perform "new acoustic" songs and instrumentals and will have you tapping your feet, singing along and requesting they play your favorite song! Check out their profile at https://reddoorduo.com/.

In addition to the music, there will be a silent auction with wonderful items available for you to be "the high bidder." You'll also have an opportunity to meet and talk with Senate Candidate Lisa White. She will share her ideas on important issues and might even sing a few songs with the musicans.

Hope to see you at THAW FEST. Come for the fun. Leave inspired and motivated.

I’m seeing lots of memes about Provisional Ballots.
In Wisconsin, you can register at the polls on Election Day. You will need proof of residence.
There are only 2 situations where you can get a Provisional Ballot in Wisconsin
A provisional ballot WILL be issued if:
1. you are eligible to vote and have a current and valid Wisconsin driver license or identification card, but you are unable or unwilling to list the number when you register.
2. you are a registered voter and you are unable or unwilling to provide proof of identification.

Your ballot will not be counted unless you provide the information by the Friday after the election.
