Restrooms at headquarters and in the day-use are closed due to a maintenance issue. Other toilets are available at the beach and amphitheater.

Trail safety tip!
While out on the trails, paying attention to plant life can keep you from an itchy encounter. The plant on the left is Eastern Poison Ivy that has an oil on the leaves that can leave a rash. The plant on the right looks similar, but is harmless Virginia Creeper.

Are these guys not otterly adorable? Visitor David Shoffitt photographed these Northern River Otters out in the park this weekend. River otters are part of the mustelid family along with weasels and badgers. They love to eat fish, crustaceans, and mollusks!

Is it a bird? A plane? No! It's more August events!!! Mark your calendars for these fun park events at Lake Mineral Wells State Park and Trailways!

Sunday August 16th/30th - 10:00 am - Art in the Park- Meet at Penitentiary Hollow to mix art with nature. Learn about the importance of leaves and their parts by creating colorful leaf rubbings.

Friday August 21st - 9:00pm - Moon Viewing -Join us in the amphitheater parking lot to see the moon up close in telescopes and learn about our magnificent satellite!

Saturday August -22nd - 8:30am - Track Discovery -Meet at the Big Fire Ring to go looking for animal tracks on our blue trail and make a plaster cast to take home with you.

Sunday August 23rd - 8:30am - I Naturalist Hike -Meet at the Cross Timers Trailhead to go on a hike and learn about the I Naturalist App. The hike is 2.5 miles on an easy grade trail. Bring plenty of water, your cell phone and your walking shoes!

Friday August 28th - 9:00pm- Mothing! - Come shine a light on our nocturnal insects. Meet at Penitentiary Hollow and learn about things that buzz in the night.

Sunday August 30th - 8:30a - Blue Trail Bird Hike! - Meet at the Bird Viewing area to see our native birds and go on a short hike on part of the Blue Trail. Some binoculars are provided on a first come, first serve basis.
