Mother Nature is ramping up for another snow/rain/and wind storm this week. Here are a few last-minute tips to help prepare for the storm.

If you have a generator, make sure it is fueled up and vented properly. Carbon Monoxide is a tasteless, odorless gas that is fatal.

If you have to go to work, make sure your vehicle is fueled up just in case roadways are closed and you have to take a long detour.

If you don't have to be outside don't be...With winds estimated at a sustained 20 MPH and gust expected between 50-70 MPH a tree branch becomes a deadly weapon.

If you have something in your yard or your house that can become airborne remove it or tie it down. That cute windchime could take a little trip to your neighbors.

Make sure to have any battery-operated items like your cell phone or medical equipment charged up. If we lose power, we usually don't know how long it would be out for.

Keep a bucket or a few pans of water on hand to help flush your toilets when needed.

Please do not use a bar-b-que grill indoors. Not only is is a fire hazard but it off gasses carbon monoxide (remember it is fatal).

Whatever you do, please stay safe.

Here is the latest info that we have on the upcoming storm system starting around 6pm tonight:

*The main thunderstorm threat window will be between 6pm Saturday and 2am Sunday with storms moving from south to north across the region.

* At this time, our primary concerns are:
○ Burn scar debris flows/flash flooding
○ Isolated severe wind gusts (>58 mph) or even severe hail (>1”)
○ Frequent lighting, wind, hail, and heavy rain impacts to outdoor events/recreation activities.

We ask that everyone be prepared for this storm by doing the following:

Make sure all battery-operated items are fully charged in case of a power outage.

Make sure you have enough supplies for at least 24 hours as we do not know if the roadways will be affected by landslides.

If you have a backup generator, make sure it is fueled and ready.

Ensure you have enough water for drinking and flushing toilets.

PLEASE stay indoors during the actual storm.

Here are some helpful phone numbers to have just in case:

To report power outages: 800-562-5612
To report road blockages: 360-740-1123 or Central Dispatch business line 360-740-1105.

Today your Mineral Fire Department responded to reports of a fire off the 74 road. Us, along with DNR and Forest Service, attacked and extinguished the fire before it could spread and turn into a major incident. DNR has named this the Mineral Fire.

Today while your Mineral Fire Department was working an emergency scene, we had to remind multiple drivers to slow down through the accident area. Even though we were all in our protective gear and traffic vest if someone is not paying attention and going too fast our risk of getting hit increases. We understand it is the weekend and everybody has places to go but we want to go home to our family and friends alive and not hurt.
