Just learned of the passing of George Rodnick…. You probably knew him as I did, Pete Rodnick. The man who was the best cook I knew and served up thousands of amazing breakfasts and lunches at the Wynn Ann for decades. Pete was an honest hardworking man and certainly an icon to those in the Minersville area. Pete will be missed by all who knew him and those of us he fed on a daily basis. The breakfast just got much better in heaven!

Did you know that the Purple Heart Medal is the oldest active military award established by George Washington on Aug 7 1782, known as the Badge of Military Merit. Later revived in 1933 by General Douglas MacArthur where it took the form of the current medal we see today.

This medal is awarded to those who are wounded or killed by enemy action.

What began as a fun hobby has turned into a meaningful way for 7-year-old Reese Kapcia of Bloomsburg to give back. Reese, who lives with her parents, Joseph and Emily Kapcia, and her brother and sister, creates handmade pony bead keychains through Reese's Rainbow Creations. She sells them for $3-$5 each through custom orders and a display carousel at Palermo's in Minersville.

The overwhelming support from family, friends, and community members has allowed Reese to more than double her original donation goal for Janet Weis Children's Hospital. Reese will wrap up sales later this week and looks forward to making her personal donation to the hospital soon.

Reese and her family are incredibly grateful for the community's support and hope her story will inspire other children by showing that even a small hobby can make a big impact.

Upcoming road closures starting Monday. Please plan accordingly.

Notice:

The Borough will be milling and paving roads beginning July 13. Please adhere to all road closures and parking restrictions.

Residents on the affected streets should still place garbage curbside for Tuesday morning. The collector will be in prior to the road work that day to collect the sanitation.

Also, residents on the north side affected by the paving should place recycling curbside on Wednesday.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Couldn’t say it any better than our friends over at Good Intent Hose Co already did.

Slow down. Move over. Put the phones down.

ENOUGH.

In the last 10 days, Pennsylvania has experienced:

🚨 5 roadway responder incidents

🚑 At least 8 emergency responders transported by EMS

🚗 Several motorists also injured

🖤 1 responder killed

Trooper Michael E. Pahira, Jr.

A medic crew struck while transporting a critically injured patient.

A fire police officer struck—for the second time in his career.

A firefighter thrown over a guardrail.

Two Philadelphia police officers struck.

Different roads.

Different uniforms.

Same truth.

These were preventable crashes.

When you see flashing lights—

📵 Put the phone down.

➡️ Move Over.

⬇️ Slow Down.

The people working on the roadside aren't obstacles.

They're someone's husband.

Someone's wife.

Someone's mom.

Someone's dad.

Someone's child.

Every responder deserves to finish the shift they started.

Every family deserves to see them come home.

Stop picking the flowers. Start watering the roots. Protect the people who protect the road.
