Our hearts are with the Rittman Police Department as they face the loss of Sgt. Ries.

We extend our deepest condolences to Sgt. Ries’ family, friends, fellow officers, and the entire Rittman community during this incredibly difficult time. We are also keeping the injured officers, K-9, and their families in our thoughts and prayers.

Rest easy, Sergeant. Your service, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten. 💙🖤

We would like to thank the Carroll County Sheriff's Office and Deputy Micah Campbell for putting on a K9 demonstration for Cub Scout Group 271 out of Marlboro, Ohio. Ptl. Russell Andrew Smith is the den leader of the group and set this demonstration to happen at the Minerva Police Department shooting range. K9 Nuke got to meet all the kids, put on demonstrations of an article search and a demonstration of a takedown of a suspect. Ptl. Smith was nice enough to put on the bite suit during the demonstration and let K9 Nuke chew on him a little bit. Videos will be attached in the comments.

**Update Kittens are still at the department. Looking for a rescue to possibly take them.***

Last night while on patrol units found a pink pet carrier with these 2 sweet kittens locked inside. If you lost your carrier and kitties they are currently hanging out with dispatch at the police department. If you know the owners or are willing to foster. Please contact us 330-868-4177.

On 04/09/2026, officers received a call in reference to a domestic incident. During the investigation it was found that the incident occurred in the Carroll County Sheriff's Office jurisdiction and Minerva P.D. assisted with the investigation. It was found the suspect was going to be charged with felony counts of Domestic Violence, Strangulation, Kidnapping and Aggravated Assault. It was also learned the suspect had made threats to get into a shootout with police if located. Chief Gardner, Ptl. Smith and Ptl Ruggeri located the suspect and conducted a vehicle takedown of the suspect by blocking his vehicle in with cruisers and performing a felony takedown. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Both officers did not hesitate putting themselves in harms way and taking a potentially violent suspect into custody. Congratulations to Ptl. Smith and Ptl. Ruggeri for receiving their commendations letters tonight.
