Firefighter Rocky E. Dunkin, 24
Nile Township Volunteer Fire Department. Ohio
Lieutenant Dunkin responded to the scene of a motor vehicle crash on U.S. 52 near Friendship, Ohio, with entrapment. Lieutenant Dunkin was one of the first firefighters on the scene and assisted other firefighters and a law enforcement officer with gaining access to the occupants of the vehicle. The fire chief arrived on the scene and he ordered Lieutenant Dunkin to retrieve a backboard from the fire apparatus. As he began to complete the task, Lieutenant Dunkin collapsed. He was treated by responders and placed in an ambulance for transport to Southern Ohio Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 3:15 am. The cause of death was listed as a heart attack.

Pickaway County Crash
US-23 CLOSED **UPDATE**

9:45 A.M.
US-23 has reopened between SR-316 and SR-762 following an earlier crash.

4:42 AM.
US-23 Northbound and Southbound is CLOSED between SR-316 and SR-762 in Pickaway County due to a severe crash involving a fatality. One passanger vehicle and a semi truck was involved in the crash which occurred at SR-752.
Motorists should anticipate the roadway being closed throughout the morning rush. SR-104 is an alternate route.

Yesterday, June 11, at approximately 10:34 a.m., MVFD responded to a tragic plane crash on Bennett Schoolhouse Road. Our thoughts are with the pilot, his family, and the affected homeowners.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the nearly 70 emergency personnel who responded in 23 emergency apparatus. This represented the largest coordinated emergency response in our jurisdiction since the propane truck fire in the early 1990s.

Emergency personnel from the Columbus Fire Department, Jefferson Township Fire & Rescue, Minford EMS, Porter Township Fire Department, Rubyville Volunteer Fire Department, South Webster-Bloom Township Fire Department, Stockdale Fire Department, Valley Township Fire Department, and Vernon Township Fire Rescue responded to this incident.

We received additional support from the Scioto County Sheriff's Office, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Scioto County Coroner, the Scioto County Emergency Management Agency, the Salvation Army Portsmouth Corps, the Federal Aviation Administration, and National Transportation Safety Board.

We thank all of these responders for their professionalism and efforts.
