Last week at SouthWest Station in Eden Prairie, Metro Transit worked with firefighters testing our systems and infrastructure to ensure the extended METRO Green Line will be ready to go in 2027!

Teams simulated a fire on one of our light rail trains and conducted a fire drill in the station. Great work from all teams involved, more testing to come as we prepare for opening day in 2027.

We hope you’ll visit us at the Minnesota State Fair! We’re right at the Southwest corner entrance of the Grandstand. Visitors can learn more, and give feedback, about the future of transit in the Twin Cities. We're also giving away fans!

In partnership with MnDOT, we’ve helped curate an Eco Experience exhibit "Rolling in Green", which features a replica bus that kids can play in, demo bus bike rack that visitors can try out, and information about sustainable transportation options.

Have a great Fair and don’t forget, “Let us do the driving!”

Transit has always been the best way to get to the Minnesota State Fair!

From 1891 to 1952, streetcars brought riders in from Minneapolis and St. Paul to the State Fairgrounds. A complex streetcar network ran in and out of the fairgrounds bringing thousands of visitors every day. You can still see the historic arch that trolleys would pass under as you walk into the fair from the State Fair Express bus area.

Will you be a part of history taking transit to the fair this year?

08/28/2026

James Slegers rides light rail for fun, baseball and to connect with history by riding light rail to Target Field and CHS Field in the same day for two baseball games.

This trip is a throwback to when the Twin Cities had Streetcar Doubleheaders, where fans watched the Minneapolis Millers play, then hopped on a streetcar to catch the St. Paul Saints.

Tomorrow, you can join other fans like James and bring that tradition back with your own Light Rail Doubleheader.

On Aug. 29, catch the Twins versus White Sox at 2:10 p.m. the the Saints versus Toledo Mud Hens at 6:37 p.m.

An All-Day Pass costs just $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for youth, seniors, Medicare holders, or persons with disabilities.
