Lack of press won't silence our message or support for our community!

Community members supporters and city council members gathered for our press conference on 5/20/26 to show solidarity with Catherine Doe who experienced transphobic harassment by an off-duty MPD officer while working in 2024. Despite the lack of press, we refuse to be quiet when our community members experience harm at the hands of the police!

Jae of the Twin Cities Coalition for Justice spoke about why TCC4J and the Taking Back Pride coalition demand community control of the police and cops out of pride.

At TBP’s May 20th press conference, the Minnesota Abortion Action Committee (MNAAC) explained how MPD Officer Ryan Calhoun’s transphobic harassment of Catherine Doe at her workplace highlights the need for state sanctuary laws that protect transgender transplants in Minnesota, and for community control of the police. The lack of accountability from the officers who so frequently commit transphobic acts — or fail to act in defense of trans residents — and the departments that protect them, have been and continue to be a threat to these vulnerable communities. The time to protect our trans neighbors is now. We demand our elected officials commit the resources necessary to protect the rights and autonomy of those seeking refuge in MN.

We are demanding accountability for MPD Officer Ryan Calhoun following his hostile attack on a trans security guard, Catherine Doe. At a press conference on May 20, June Elizabeth Palmer from Communities Against Transphobia exposed MPD’s consistent track record of harm against the transgender community. Palmer highlighted that while state laws are making Minnesota a refuge for trans people relocating here, local police misconduct actively threatens that safety.
