Pull up an apron — our kitchen has room for YOU!

Cook & Connect is one of the most rewarding ways to make your time matter. You'll serve up delicious, chef-planned meals to guests at Simpson Community Shelter & Apartments, and you might even pick up a new kitchen skill or two from our professional chef along the way!

No cooking experience needed. Our chef handles the menu and shopping, and staff are on every shift to guide you. Shifts are set times, so it's easy to plan ahead and bring your people. Grab your coworkers, your book club, your family (ages 10+), or a few friends. Groups of 3–4 are perfect!

Every meal served is a chance to share a smile, a conversation, and a little dignity around the table. 💛

Turns out the Simpson team is pretty competitive ... but we already knew that! 💙🏆🎉

Our annual Staff Appreciation Event brought team members from across Simpson together at Fowling Warehouse Minneapolis for an afternoon of fun, food, and connection.

Teams took on fowling . . . a football-meets-bowling game where players throw a football to knock down their opponents’ bowling pins. There were plenty of laughs and some impressive throws! 🎳🏈

With so many new faces over the past year – including welcoming our new Executive Director, Tonya Brownlow – it was meaningful to have time to connect outside of our day-to-day work and simply enjoy being together.

We are grateful for the compassion, commitment, and care our staff bring to Simpson and our community every day. Thank you to the entire Simpson team for all you do! 💙

The first of two “Curiosity Meets Courage” trainings was held this week, with 15 attendees exploring a vocabulary of antiracism concepts, and discussing the ways in which racism is a key cause of homelessness.

One of Simpson’s newest volunteers attended and commented,
“Though it shouldn’t be hard, it can be difficult to talk about topics like antiracism and confront our country’s history. I think the Simpson staff did a great job at fostering an approachable and comfortable setting to do so though. I found the transactional volunteering vs. transformational impact to be very helpful and walked away from the session with more grounded and empowered feelings about what it means to volunteer.

Round two, Cahill Financial Advisors! 🙌

Another crew from Cahill was back in our shelter kitchen this week, and they brought the good vibes again! Together they helped whip up sloppy joes, potato salad, and colorful fresh fruit bowls for our guests.

Team member Anne said the best part was sitting down to share a meal and connect with our guests, and we couldn't agree more!

Chef Terri loves meeting new faces from the same company, and Cahill keeps delivering, with this being their second team to serve this month. Thank you for showing up for our community again and again!

A big shoutout to our partners at Mahoney - CPAs and Advisors.

We appreciate their partnership and the expertise they provide as Simpson’s auditors. The Mahoney team recently joined us for Cook & Connect where they prepared and served lunch at the shelter.

Our staff and shelter guests are always grateful to have volunteers join us. Thank you for spending part of your day with us and for being part of the Simpson community!

Welcome to Simpson, Tonya!

It's been a busy and fun start for our new Executive Director, Tonya Brownlow. We welcomed her with a cookie party, and she spent her first few days meeting staff, visiting the shelter, and touring a few of our housing programs to get to know the organization.

We're so excited to have Tonya with us as Simpson’s new Executive Director and look forward to all that is ahead. Please join us in giving her a warm Simpson welcome!

“Banking with Heart” was on their shirts and they lived it out!

Our friends at Old National Bank, Simpson’s banking partner, recently spent part of their day at the shelter preparing and serving lunch through Cook & Connect. We loved having the Old National Bank team with us. Thank you for bringing your time, energy, and heart to Simpson!
