Six months. 72 shelter beds. 42 apartments. Every single one full. 🏠

Behind those numbers are people like Christian, who finally had a safe place to recover from surgery… Pete, who staff searched for at the public library for weeks before finally finding him… and a man who spent 25 years moving between shelters, and is now baking blueberry muffins for his neighbors.

Every story here started because someone believed people deserve dignity, stability, and the chance to begin again.

Six months in, we've seen what's possible when our community shows up. Imagine what the next six months could hold — with you in it.

Welcome People to their New Homes with a Gift Basket

When coming from shelter, people often only have some clothing and a few items from their previous home. When they move into their new home, they need some basic items to get settled.
Simpson is seeking organizations and groups to create "Welcome Home Baskets" for program participants. Volunteers provide a basket filled with household items.

Download a list of items for the baskets and information here:https://simpsonhousing.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Welcome-Home-Baskets.pdf

When Debbie retired, she didn't want to slow down too much. Her experience as a tutor was incredibly rewarding.
“At the beginning, I encouraged her to read,” Debbie says. “And by the end of the year, she was asking to read books. She wanted to pick them out and read to me. Her confidence had grown enough that she wanted to do it.” Read Debbie's story here: https://simpsonhousing.org/blog/volunteers/a-lifetime-of-impact-in-just-an-hour-a-week/

It's Hot Out...But We Still Need the Basics

When the temperatures soar, clean t-shirts and underwear become even more important. Simpson Community Shelter & Apartments is currently in need of new, unused men's white t-shirts and new adult men's and women's underwear in all sizes.

These everyday essentials provide comfort, dignity, and a fresh start to the day for guests. If you'd like to help, contact Katelyn at [email protected] for donation details or questions.
