The human cost of the ICE surge was evident, we all witnessed it, and are continuing to deal with those devastating effects. But the full economic toll is becoming more clear everyday. We now know that it cost our hospitality industry over 4,600 jobs. Yet Minnesota Republicans continue to insist that the surge didn't happen in the way we all saw, or that the human/economic toll was worth it to make some twisted ideological point.

Minnesota deserves compensation and the Trump admin must be held accountable for their unconstitutional and harmful overreach.

Thanks to everyone who made it out to our Town Hall! It's always great connecting with community and hearing what matters to you. This session left a lot that needs to be accomplished when we return in 2027. I'm excited to get to work with you to make sure we can pass the legislation our community needs.

Session came to an end on Monday. It was a busy year which was tricky to navigate due to the tie. And while there are many important things that couldn't get through the tied House, there was a lot of good that was accomplished. Read about it in my end of session update:

Coming into this session I heard clearly from you that we needed to take action to pass legislation responding to the epidemic of gun violence and ICE abuses that terrorized our communities. I fought tirelessly to bring home change, but ultimately a tied House blocked this decisive action.

In the final hours of the 2026 session we had the opportunity to take action to acknowledge the harms caused by the ICE invasion and pass legislation to protect Minnesotans from future unconstitutional and murderous actions. Unfortunately, not a single Republican joined the DFL in standing up for the rights of Minnesotans. Rest assured, we will return next year to pass protections for Minnesotans against future federal overreach.

We have yet to confront the direct dangers facing our students. Hardening schools to make them more prison-like is only a small part of the solution, particularly when it harms learning and mental health if it isn't combined with mental health staffing and gun violence prevention.
