We’re looking for volunteers to help make a difference in our community!

We currently have opportunities available to support our Access Lab, Keystone Food Truck Day, and Youth Programming at PPL.

Volunteers play an important role in supporting our mission and strengthening the communities we serve. Volunteering with us is an opportunity to connect with others, support meaningful work, and make a lasting impact alongside passionate partners and supporters.

We’re reminiscing about last month’s historic moment for PPL as we celebrated the first property sale under our transformative RE-Seed initiative.🎉 This program aims to close real estate development disparities and expand access to homeownership for historically excluded communities.

RE-Seed’s goal is to give a new generation of developers—especially those who’ve been historically left out of real estate ownership—a chance to own and manage small-scale affordable housing.

PPL is so proud to be part of Step Up, a youth employment and internship program that connects more young people to jobs and career possibilities than any other program in Minneapolis.

Step Up launched in 2003 to address the workforce shortages and equity gaps that continue to impact communities to this day. The City of Minneapolis, along with Achieve Twin Cities, CareerForce, and PPL, remains committed to connecting motivated young people with local employers that value fresh perspectives and provide meaningful, hands-on job training.

Are you a young person or an employer curious about how to get involved in Step Up? Contact our program director Casey Wahl at [email protected] and learn more at the link in comments.

We were honored to welcome two TIME100 honorees to our Annual Breakfast last week, including honoree Tonya Allen of the McKnight Foundation and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey! 🎉

Tonya was recently named to the TIME100 list of the most influential leaders in philanthropy and Mayor Frey was recognized on the TIME100 list of the world’s most influential people.

Both are extraordinary leaders whose impact is shaping the Twin Cities and influencing communities far beyond. We deeply value the ways they continue to show up as partners in this work and for our community every day.

Congratulations to Tonya and Mayor Frey!

May is National Mental Health Awareness Month, which is why we came together at PPL's all-staff meeting today for a powerful panel discussion about wellness, care, and community.

We are grateful for our panelists Rose Reed-Townsend, youth Mental Health Support Specialist at PPL’s MERC Alternative School; Bria Garner, LMFT, Clinical Director of Reviving Roots Therapy & Wellness; and Malik Rucker, Executive Director of V3 Sports, for sharing their insights, honesty, and expertise with our staff. Special thanks to moderator Brittany Diaz-Powell for guiding such a thoughtful conversation and to Faith Jackson for helping facilitate it.

At PPL, much of our work is rooted in supporting people through trauma-informed care, housing stability, workforce development, and community connection. Supporting our participants also means supporting the people behind the work, which is why we remain committed to investing in the mental health and wellness of our staff.

Conversations like these are an important reminder that mental health matters in every workplace. 💚

Congratulations to our recent Office Specialist Pathway graduates! 🎉

We had 11 participants complete this 7-week program, which prepares them for administrative roles across a range of office settings. Past graduates have gone on to work in human resources, corrections departments, and behavioral health clinics.

PPL has offered the Office Specialist Pathway for more than 10 years, and this year, we were proud to partner with Hennepin County, Ramsey County, and the City of Saint Paul.

“Throughout the Office Specialist Program, I’ve learned much more than I expected. What helped me the most was the support and hands-on experience I received in building a professional presence, networking, goal setting, budgeting and money management, and DEI,” said one 2026 Office Specialist Pathway graduate.
