The Ethiopian Grand Renaissance Dam stands as a symbol of national pride, unity, and progress for the people of Ethiopia. Built on the Abbay River (Blue Nile), this historic project represents our right to develop, utilize, and manage our natural resources in a fair and equitable manner while respecting the needs of neighboring countries.
GERD is not only an engineering marvel but also a beacon of hope for millions of Ethiopians striving for economic growth and energy independence. Upon completion, it will generate more than 6,000 megawatts of clean, renewable energy, making Ethiopia a leading power exporter in Africa and accelerating regional integration and prosperity.
We affirm that the dam is being constructed with a deep commitment to peace, cooperation, and mutual benefit. Ethiopia seeks a win-win solution for all Nile Basin countries, ensuring that the dam will not cause significant harm downstream but rather enhance shared opportunities for development, food security, and sustainability.
The GERD embodies Ethiopia’s unwavering sovereignty, resilience, and vision for the future — a project built by Ethiopians, for Ethiopians, and for Africa as a whole.
“GERD is our power, our future, and our pride.”
