Please join us this Wednesday for the virtual panel, In Focus: Locked Out – The Path from Incarceration to Inclusion, a new installment of the In Focus discussion series from MPR News. This free online discussion takes place February 24th at noon CST via zoom and Facebook live.

Angela Davis MPR will lead a conversation with a panel of community experts including:

☞ Richard McLemore, Executive Director, McLemore Holdings
☞ Nadine Graves, public defender
☞ Brother Shane M. Price, co-founder of and lead trainer, The Power of People Leadership Institute
☞ Josh Wilson, 2012 graduate of Tech Dump’s jobs training program. Josh is currently employed by the Public Works Department for the City of Minneapolis.

As a social enterprise, we at Tech Dump provide jobs and training to Minnesotans who are re-entering the community after incarceration, and this conversation will examine how we can become a more welcoming state to people facing barriers to steady employment, affordable housing, and other opportunities. The online discussion will be the first of three panels Tech Dump will collaborate on in the coming months.

The number of people sent back to state prison three years after being released dropped by nearly a quarter over a seven-year period.

The study, which analyzed short-term and long-term recidivism rates, found that 48 percent of incarcerated people released in 2005 returned to prison by the end of 2008. By comparison, among those released in 2012, the number dropped to 37 percent by the end of 2015—a 23-percent drop.
