MWSS-471 Marines participated in Crash Damaged or Disabled Aircraft Recovery (CDDAR) training at Volk Field Air National Guard Base, Wisconsin, honing the specialized skills required to recover damaged aircraft in austere environments. Throughout the evolution, Marines executed both vertical and horizontal de-bogging operations, using coordinated rigging, crane operations, and recovery procedures to safely free and reposition aircraft.

CDDAR training develops the technical expertise, teamwork, and precision required to rapidly return aircraft to service or prepare them for transport—ensuring aviation assets remain ready to support the mission whenever and wherever called upon.

The hands-on training focused on radio employment, troubleshooting, and communications procedures in an expeditionary environment, enhancing the unit’s ability to establish and maintain reliable communications in support of distributed operations. By training alongside CLB-23, Marines strengthened interoperability and reinforced the critical role communications play in sustaining command and control across the battlefield.

Utilizing a Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) Highback and two communications vehicles, Marines rapidly emplaced a concealed command post, established communications, and rehearsed command and control procedures in a contested environment. Training focused on mobility, survivability, and maintaining reliable communications to support distributed operations across the battlespace.

MWSS-471 continues to strengthen its ability to provide agile combat service support and command and control capabilities wherever Marines are needed.
