Guided by our Safety & Security Action Plan, we've spent the past four years advancing more than 40 actions aimed at meaningfully improving conditions on our system, strengthening connections with riders and partners, and supporting transit workers.

These efforts are making an impact. For example:

✅ In recent surveys, both customers and operators reported feeling safer than they did the previous year.
✅ The number of what we consider to be the most serious crimes occurring on transit continues to fall.
✅ Either Metro Transit Police Department police officers, Community Service Officers, or TRIP agents are now present on more than 40% of all light rail trips, a sign of steady growth in all these important areas. This is possible because of the great progress we've made on hiring. In this video, Chief Dotseth shares more about why our agency is growing so rapidly.

While we’re encouraged by the progress we’re making, we know we must continue working to provide a consistently clean, safe and welcoming experience on our system.

Learn more about our ongoing efforts and find our first quarter update on Safety & Security Action Plan implementation on our website.

Last night, Chief Dotseth surprised the Metropolitan Council chair and members, as well as the regional administrator, with a plaque for their continued support of the Metro Transit Police Department. It reads, in part: "Together, we affirm our shared responsibility to serve and uplift all communities throughout our region with honesty, service, and respect."

Eight-year-old Lawyer dreams of becoming a police officer. His mother reached out to Officer Vang after meeting at an outreach event, and we were pleased to be able to offer them a tour of MTPD's West Command today. Lawyer learned all about our agency and showed us a little of his Muay Thai skills. Thanks for visiting us, Lawyer!

While working the beat, it is important for officers to interact with the community, bus operators, passengers, and business owners in their patrol areas to build trust.

Officers Baumgardner and Recruit Officer Skye recently stopped by local businesses to introduce themselves. The businesses were excited to hear about the beat and shared some of their concerns about issues downtown.

Officers Baumgardner and Recruit Skye are truly embodying the meaning of community policing by establishing trust with the people that we serve.

Thank you to 89.9 KMOJ "THE PEOPLES STATION" and Freddie Bell and Chantel Sings in the Morning on KMOJ for inviting Chief Dotseth into the studio this morning. It was a great conversation about the role of MTPD, our hiring process, and how we're focused on building strong relationships with the communities that we serve.
