For approximately five months now, the Minneapolis Police Firearm Assault Shoot Team (FAST) has been bringing an immediate and focused response to non-fatal shootings across our city.

FAST investigators approach every non-fatal shooting with the same urgency and investigative focus as a homicide, because every non-fatal shooting is essentially a failed homicide.

The goal is simple: identify shooters, take the necessary steps to hold them accountable, and prevent the next act of violence.

To learn more about how FAST was established and how they investigate non-fatal shootings, watch our latest YouTube feature, where Lieutenant Andrew Schroeder of the Major Crimes Division provides an inside look at the team's mission and investigative process. LINK: https://youtu.be/OCtWDE25OQM

From Minneapolis Police Chief Bill Peterson:

The violence our city experienced on Sunday was heartbreaking, and our thoughts remain with the victims, their loved ones, and everyone affected.

The Minneapolis Police Department wants our community to know this: your safety remains our highest priority.
We are working diligently with along with our local, county, state, and federal law enforcement partners to identify those responsible and hold them fully accountable. Every investigative lead is being pursued, and we will follow the evidence wherever it leads.

This work did not begin Sunday. For months, MPD has maintained a sustained focus on areas experiencing persistent violent crime through targeted enforcement, proactive patrols, Operation Safe Summer, RAPPID Zones, public safety cameras, and partnerships with prosecutors and community organizations. Between July 1 and July 19 alone, officers recovered 49 illegal fi****ms from our streets.

In response to Sunday's violence, we are expanding those efforts by increasing high-visibility patrols, adding dedicated resources around E. 19th Street and Nicollet Avenue, strengthening our Uptown Late-Night Safety Plan, and adjusting deployments wherever crime data shows an elevated risk.

Our message is simple: The people of Minneapolis deserve to feel safe where they live, work, and visit. We will continue working relentlessly to remove violent offenders from our streets while building strong partnerships that help keep our neighborhoods safe.

If you have information about Sunday's incidents or any criminal activity, please contact the Minneapolis Police Department or submit an anonymous tip through CrimeStoppers. Your information could make a critical difference.

On May 14, 2026, Bob set out for what should have been an ordinary walk through his Minneapolis neighborhood. Instead, he became trapped in the cold waters of Shingle Creek, where every passing minute increased the danger of hypothermia.

After his wife reported him missing, the Minneapolis Police Department deployed a drone equipped with thermal imaging. Officer Drew Clark quickly located Bob in the creek, allowing first responders to rescue him within minutes.

Our Community Service Officers were out in force helping keep the Red, White and Boom celebration safe and enjoyable for the more than 50,000 people who attended this year's event. 🇺🇸
From assisting with traffic to engaging with community members throughout the day, our CSOs played an important role in making the celebration a success. Even after thunderstorms delayed the fireworks, the skies cleared and the spectacular show went on.
Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate safely, and to our CSOs for their outstanding service to the community!
