How do we fight back against rising property taxes & keeping rent affordable in Central? On August 19th at 6pm, join representatives from CANDO for a community conversation with Council Member Soren Stevenson & County Commissioner Angela Conley. We’ll be located at 3400 Park Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55407 (Park Avenue Church) in the gathering room on the main floor. Enter using the door facing the parking lot off of 36th Street East. This Thursday, we will be joined by a member of the City of Minneapolis Public Works, who will provide an update on the construction around George Floyd Square and answer your questions.

This week’s George Floyd Square construction update:

-Pouring concrete sidewalks on 38th north sidewalk and Chicago on the east side
-Continuing the grading on the road
-Last 5 lead service lines on Chicago will be completed 8/17-8/21
-There are raised intersections that make pedestrians more visible, which you can see the inclines in what they are pouring now (see image)
-6 trees were cut down initially and 25 are being added
-There will also be a few rain gardens added

Weekly George Floyd Square construction update:

-The “removals” phase of this project is over, and crews have moved onto the “building up” phase.
-Poured one bus pad last week near Elliot avenue.
-Curbs on 38th should be complete next week.
-Drain plates that are sitting out, especially near Phelps, are being aged and patinaed in the elements, so that they dont rust into the concrete once they are placed.
-Lead service work may move to the week of the 17th.
