Kroening Nature Center

Kroening Nature Center Hidden behind the Route 94 freeway wall, this regional park will captivate those lucky enough to stumble upon it.

The park offers spectacular views of the Mississippi River and the surrounding woods and prairie. Here you will find abundant wildlife in action: a Great Blue Heron nesting on an island, deer browsing forage, a beaver felling trees, hawks and eagles soaring overhead. In summer, the prairie flowers provide ever-changing color. Walking trails meander through the prairie and along the shores of the r

iver. Bike trails traverse the park and connect with Webber parkway and commuter routes into downtown Minneapolis. There is a fishing pier in the extreme northern segment of the park. Further south, there is a play area featuring a wading pool, a state-of-the-art playground, and picnic tables, grills and shelters. A fishing pier and boat launch area are located in the southern part of the park.

Campers have been busy this summer! Enjoying the Mississippi River has been a treasured activity for all. Check out some of the things we discovered last week in River Romp Camp: fish, crayfish, skipping rock, shells, worms, and a slug affectionately named Jelly. 🐌

Come out to North Mississippi Regional Park on Saturday June 6th for a day of community science! A BioBlitz is an opportunity to learn about the flora and fauna living in the park and participate in community science by documenting as many plant and animal species as we can throughout the day through iNaturalist. Local experts will lead guided survey walks through the park on a variety of topics, including plants, birds, insects, animal tracking, fish and more. It's also a great excuse to get outside in nature and get to know your local regional park a little better! And they're a lot of fun!

The event will start at 7:30 am with an early morning bird walk, and then the first full session of the day will kick off at 9:15am, with a provided lunch from 12:15-1pm, and an afternoon session from 1-4pm. Sign up for one session or join for the whole day! It's open to all ages, no experience or knowledge necessary, and is completely free to participate.

Scan the QR code on the flyer or go to https://form.jotform.com/260745269116157 to register!
